Getting my kids their own Xboxes

Greetings!

TLDRL I'd like some info on what it would take to get my kids each an Xbox to play Diablo 4 multiplayer please.

I'll apologize right now and say that I've done a bit of reading, but don't have the time I used to to thoroughly research this stuff. I realize this probably gets asked frequently.

My kids are getting to the high side of teens now, and I've just introduced them to Diablo with the release of 4. Been trying for years to get them to play 2 and 3 on pc, but that's another story. They love the game, and are now interested in each getting their own console for when they are at their mother's, and I am wondering exactly what I'll need to do to ensure they have their own console, have access to my gold subscription, and be able to play Diablo with each other, or me, as well as some titles like GTA. I've seen articles that claim that only 1 person needs a copy of Diablo to play multiplayer, but that might be PC only.

Obviously, they'll need a console, but do I NEED to upgrade to Ultimate (or whatever it's called these days), and do they each need a copy of the game to make it work? Also, they have plenty of saved game files and whatnot, like the Batman Arkham games, can they just copy their saved files and use them if they have their own copy of the game? Also, for those that have done this, I'll probably recommend they leave my console as their "home" console, but what kind of problems/hassles have you run into by having multiple consoles?

I swear things were simpler when I was just having trouble getting a joystick to work with Wing Commander...

Thanks for the reply Ben, that answered most of my questions. It looks as though they are discontinuing the program you referenced in your link. I did decide to get my daughter a console, I may get one for my son down the road, do I have to set hers up under my account first and then have her add her profile, or can she just set it up under her since she is listed on my Gold account already?

Also, limited to 2 consoles? Couch coop is a rare thing these days, and for a family to play together most games require a separate console. Seems pretty short sighted to me to limit it to only 2. I could see limiting it to 4 or 5, but 2? Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

With regards to the game sharing, a game can only be shared on console by the means of the Home Xbox feature. If only 1 user owns the game, that user can only share it one console at a time. Any users who sign in on that home console will be able to play the games that the owner has including the benefits of the subscription such as Xbox Live Gold or Game Pass Ultimate.

If you plan to have 2 additional console, you can share your games and subscriptions into 1 of those consoles only. The other user will need to buy a game and subscription in order to play, such as Diablo 4. For multiplayer games Xbox Live Gold subscription is actually needed, but if you prefer to have your kids play multiple game titles I would suggest to go for an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate instead. Game Pass Ultimate is a combination of Xbox Live Gold and Game Pass subscription so it is like 2 in 1 subscription where you will be able to play online and access games from the Game Pass library title that you can find here https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-game-pass/games

With regards to their saved games, are they playing it on their own account? If so, once they sign in their own account on their own console those saved games will be accesible there as well since game saves are also saved in the cloud. If it is available in your country, you may get it instead as this subscription can be shared per users account not just via Home console. The only problem I can think of that you might experience with the Home console is that it can really be shared to one console at a time only, if you set another console as the Home Xbox then it will be deactivated from the previous console.

Summary

Set Kid A Xbox as Home and sign in as me. Then sign Kid A in.

Get Kid B his own Gold subscription

Sign in as me on my console, then Kid A can share my subscription even though I've signed out of Kid A's console.

My kids all have an xbox 360 with their own gamertags. I just bought an xbox one and the 59.99 gold membership. where do I go to add them to the gold membership? Is there a family pack of some sorts or does each kid need their own membership.
