Looks like you nailed it. The problem indeed looks like its linked to the audio encoding. I compared seven different mkv files, four that would not play and three that played. The four that failed were all DTS audio, and all three working files were AC-3.

So it appears DTS audio format is not supported at the moment.

OK a quick update... After a big more digging around online to see if there is a solution, I think I have found something, which on this occasion has worked for me.

I was getting "Cant play file, try again later" all the time.

Solution:- don't just exit the media play, actually close the media play by displaying the menu and then selecting QUIT MEDIA PLAYER. I then re-opened the media play and the files were working again. The menu to QUIT is accessed by selecting the media player
on the home page (or where you have put it) and not from in the media player.

Ok guys problem solved.....well a way around it.

Xbox one will not play any DTS files. You can get a download called Bigasoft total video converter.

I have just tried this and it worked. I converted the audio to ac3 and it worked first time.

has something recently changed, because the video files I am talking about , two weeks ago played perfectly with no problems... but now everything has stopped playing.

this even happens to me with MP3s........MP3s! audio!!

The media player doesn't seem to pick on videos, so much as the mp3s.

the media player only tends to play one of two songs then errors out.
