Getting fed up with Microsoft! Can't redownload profile

I am getting fed up with Microsoft! I have Microsoft family safety set up on my desktop and laptop for parental control with my kids' profiles. It uses the same email address and password that xbox.com uses, so everything is the same. Yesterday, FamilySafety
prompted me to enter my password to sign in and update. However, it did not recognize my password, even though I had not changed it. I did a password reset, but when I tried to use the new password while my son was signed in to his profile (needed access
to a program that I have already allowed for school work but FamilySafety won't let him use), it said the password is invalid. WTH?? I can use it to access the familysafety web site and view all profiles, it works on the laptop to sign in to my profile,
but this evening I was prompted to enter my email addy and password on the Xbox. When I entered the new password, I got error 8015d002. The old password gave the same error.

FAQ says to reset password, so I reset it again. The new password allows me to get into the familysafety web site, but still won't let me sign on to the Xbox. FAQ second solution is to delete profile and redownload it. Soo... I deleted it. However, when
I tried to redownload it, I am prompted for the password, and NONE of the passwords are recognized!! This is getting ridiculous! I am just about ready to scrap this X360 and get a PS4, and get rid of Microsoft on the computers. I'm savvy enough to install
and use Linux, and I am very close to doing so.

Since the FAQ solutions didn't work, what is the next step? My profile is the one linked to our media (Hulu Plus and Amazon Instant Video), so without it, we have no entertainment.

    :)

    Fed up with Microsoft!

You can use the tools provided on the console to block and report this user. If you feel your son's account has been compromised you can contact phone/chat support to open an unauthorized access case. You should also contact your bank/credit card company
to be sure that information is safe and if there are any odd charges you should dispute them.

Getting fed up with Microsoft! Can't redownload profile

I forgot to mention that before I deleted my profile to redownload it, I had deleted the cache, and it didn't work either.

    Hi there,

    -

these steps are similar to what you have tried before, but with a few additional steps, could you try these as well to be sure?

    -

    1. Check
    account.live.com/.../manage
to see if at least two security proofs are setup and verified. A phone number and alternate email would be best

    2. Delete your profile from the console, be sure to delete only the profile, to do so check this link:

    support.xbox.com/.../profile-move-delete

    3. Clear the console cache, see this link for the how to:
    support.xbox.com/.../clear-system-cache

    4. Turn the console off.

    5. Turn the console on.

    6. Clear the console cache one more time

    7. Redownload your profile.(See the same link as 2.)

    Nope.

I didn't expect it to, as the password issue is not limited to the Xbox. SmartGlass on my Android phone works, signing in to Xbox.com works, signing in to the familysafety web site works, but not the parental controls on the desktop or the Xbox system settings.

Do you have Two Step Verification set up on account.live.com/proofs? If so, try turning it off and then trying to use your current password on the Xbox console.

If Two Step Verification is not turned on, then try this. Sign into your console using another Gold account, perhaps your child's. Using their account, open up the Internet Explorer app, and through that, go to account.live.com, and sign in with your OWN
email and current password. If it doesn't prompt you for a security code right away, try accessing your Security Info. When it does prompt you for a security code, go ahead and retrieve it, and type it into the website. Once verified, you should be done.
Close the browser, sign out of this other Gold account, and try to redownload your profile. If all goes well, it should download without issue, and let you use it for parental verification.

Getting fed up with Microsoft! Can't redownload profile

I do have two step verification set up, although it never gets past asking for my password, giving an error and not letting me go any farther. I'll hop on later tonight and turn it off before trying to download my profile again. That still doesn't solve
the problem on my desktop, which I think is connected to the problem on my xbox (or I have the exact same problem on two different devices). I even uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Live Family Safety and reinstalled it to the desktop with no success.

It can definitely effect both desktop and console. Two-Step Verification is looking for an additional layer password BEFORE it accepts your standard Microsoft password. It doesn't say this because that's a feature of the additional layer of security, so
that if someone lifts your email and password from some other 3rd party site, and they try logging into Xbox with it, it'll tell them the email or password is invalid, to throw them off the scent! Think of it like a Maximum Security option, like when Batman
hits the button and the bullet-proof armor closes in around the Batmobile. The Batmobile is already beast, but the extra layer of armor just puts the security into overdrive.

Turning off two-step verification worked for both! Thank you. That doesn't explain why two step verification would suddenly go on the fritz, though. One day it was working fine, then the next... it goes Kaboom!

When using two step security instead of using your password on the console you will need to use an app password, which you will need to use instead of your password on certain devices (like the Xbox console)

So if you want to turn the two step on again, be sure to check this link on how to set up an app password for the Xbox console
