Getting discontinued ?

Hi guys can any one tell me if the rumours are true someone told me that by next year the normal Xbox 360 will not be working no more as it will not be able to play on line as it will only be Xbox one that can I need to know as don't really won't to be
buying and pre ordering games to find out I can have them for 6 months then I will have to buy them again for the Xbox one many thanks in advance

Responding to the topic...of course it'll be discontinued eventually. Everything will be discontinued eventually. You and me will be discontinued eventually.

No one knows for sure, but most guess at least 2016.

While you can still by it in shops, they wouldn`t shut it down.

 

Whoever told you that is crazy. MS has stated that they will continue to support the Xbox 360 for as long as needed. Meaning that as long as the competition is still up and running so will the 360 and Xbox Live. The 7th Generation console competition
is still going. And Xbox is in it to win it.

 

I am hoping they don't pull the plug until 2018-2020. I still love being able to go online with the old gal. Unfortunately one day it will happen, all good things come to an end..

 

Perhaps in 2016 we will no longer see it for retail purchase but as for actually playing it - I think that will continue on for many more years. (both locally of course and on MS live)

 

Nothing to go on but gut feeling, but I suspect that they'll pull service for the 360 sometime soon.

Their thinking perhaps is. You don't make a New Console, and two years later continue to support the old system. (Windows works the same way)

Yes, it did happen with the 8GB Xbox for some 3+ years ?!? - while the 360 was in service. But the 360's during that time had major
issues (RROD etc) so the 8BG Xbox saw some extended online support.

This time around however, I think they'll pull the plug on the 360 much earlier, perhaps in an effort to try and help
boost X1 sales*

 

I hope before they reduce and eventually end support for this console, that they at least release an update that changes the dashboard. The whole point of the "Metro" layout is so that MS can control the space on the dash. Deliver adverts, and promote content
etc.

When the console isn't connected to Live the dashboard is horrendous. So maybe a nice Home screen gamers can customise, as a fond farewell to the system. That'd be nice. So in years to come when people get their old 360's out they can enjoy a pleasant looking
Dashboard and a fond experience, without a bunch of solid black screens recommending a connection to Live.

^That would be an excellent thing to do whether they do it only time will tell. Keep it the same layout but remove all the online stuff from it.

 

and auto unlock all online achievements on the big day.

 

Unfortunately if they auto unlock the achievements or not it would be a waste. You could not update your achievements with the 360 when you get new ones.

It feels to me, someone that can't afford the Xbox One, that they will be saying "if you like our services you will hand us $400-$500 NOW, or else!"

Sorry about the rant. But if they are gonna do it they SHOULD say straight out exactly when it will happen, and if they are not they should put the rumors to rest.

Just my thoughts.

What are you talking about? This thread was created a year ago. When the OP say's "next year", hew is referring to the year we are currently in. The year that is a few months away from finishing. If they were to shut down
the Xbox 360 servers (which will happen eventually), I will bet real money that it will not be this year. I'm also confident that it won't even be next year (2016).

Look back on what they have already done. On February 5th 2010, Microsoft announced that they would be shutting down Xbox Live for the original Xbox. It was then shut down on April 15th 2010. This was more than 4 years after
the Xbox 360 launch. No game had been produced for the original Xbox since 'Madden 09', which came out August 15 2008. The 360 is a much cheaper product than it ever has been. The 360 is being played online by more people than the original Xbox did. The
numbers of original Xbox players on Xbox Live are decreasing rapidly.



Fast forward to now (close to 2 years after the Xbox One launch). Games are still being produced for the Xbox 360. There are still more active Xbox 360 players than Xbox One players. The cost of the Xbox One has yet to significantly
drop. The Xbox 360 has just had a major system update. The Xbox 360 still has plenty of life in it yet.

I don't expect there to be any shut down of Xbox Live on Xbox 360 until about a year and a half after the release of the last Xbox 360 game.

 

And the backwards compatible games on the X1 run off of the 360 servers.
