Getting an error when trying to redeem a Destiny 2: Annual Pass

I was gifted a Destiny 2: Annual Pass for Christmas and I didn't put it in until today. When I did I got the error

Contact who you got this code from. We can't redeem it.

Have been trying to figure this out but I cannot find anything else like it on the forums except for one forum page that said it was region locked. However at the bottom of the page it says to redeem it within the United States (which I have been doing)
therefore I concluded it couldn't be caused by a region lock. Thank you and I hope to hear back about this problem.

You may want to contact support then. If a person is not in the U.S trying to redeem is there could also give that error.

I talked about the region here. I did make sure to check the region it was sent from and it does say to redeem it in the U.S.
