Getting a gamertag from an unactive account

I've been frustrated lately on the shortage of gamertags. I thought of a really cool gamertag once. I wen to change mine to that and it was taken. I look on the person's profile who owned it and it looked like they didn't even use the account. 0 gamerscore
and no friends. Why should he/she have the account when they aren't even using it? Xbox should make it so that if someone's account is inactive for long enough, it gives their gamertag away.

Suggesting to release unactive gamertags?

I already did a search on these forums about gamertags, but I was wondering if we could contact Microsoft directly and suggest a taken gamertag to be released? The gamertag I'm looking to change to has no activity or avatar at all. Anyone have success

How do I talk to a worker at Microsoft about Inactive accounts?

Hey guys I need help I REALLY WANT A Gamertag but it's taken by an unactive account that hasn't even been messed with since creation and I would like to know if there is a way to ask if it could be shut down so that I could change mine to it

 

Gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live, so you can't know if the tag is being used or not.

 

Your best bet is to call Xbox support (1-800-4MY-XBOX) and asking them but most likely they will not be able to do anything.

 

There is no shortage of gamertags if you want one just be more creative and original with yours I got my on the first try

Names aren't released on request due to people selling them

When they become available they are available just be more creative
