get audio to play from xbox one while using an hdmi to dvi conection?

I think that there is more to it, I should have mentioned before. The setup is this. I'm connecting the Xbox to a cinema projector that only has a DVI connection not a HDMI connection. I'm also going through a box to extract the audio from the HDMI signal
to send it to the amps.

I'm going HDMI from the Xbox to the audio stripper box which then passes the PCM audio to the sound amps and outputs the video through HDMI which I have going into the projector using a HDMI to DVI cable.

The Xbox is displaying it's outputting DVI in the settings not HDMI. Is there a way to 'trick' the Xbox at all? I'm guessing there isn't. Also as it's stating it's outputting DVI I'm assuming it's not sending the audio too, which is why I'm not getting any
audio.

Xbox One has 2 outputs - one HDMI and one Optical Audio (s/pdif). HDMI carries both audio and video. But if you want to send your audio to a receiver that does not have HDMI inputs, then you can use the optical output from Xbox One. PS4 is exactly the
same.

And William is right - if you try converting HDMI to DVI, you will lose the audio on both Xbox and PS4 (unless you are using the separate optical output for audio).

You cannot hook up the 360 to the HDMI port on the laptop.

What you could do is pick up the VGA cable for the 360 and an HDMI to DVI cable for your laptop. Get a first party (Microsoft) VGA cable as the third party ones have ghosting issues.

You could also get the older HDMI AV kit (needed for audio) and an HDMI to DVI adapter for the 360, but the use of an HDMI to DVI adapter is not officially supported and the HDMI AV kit that has the audio adapter was discontinued.

DVI to VGA adapters are for use with DVI-I ports on video cards. The DVI standard provides for a version that has pins which carry VGA analog signals. DVI-I ports are pinned to provide that output. That's why HDMI to DVI to VGA doesn't work - the HDMI source
has no VGA analog signals to begin with.

For audio, you'll need a digital to analog audio adapter and the requisite cabling to connect the adapter to the Xbox One, as well as to whatever speakers you want to use. They're pretty easy to find on Amazon.

DVI won't pass audio. Video only. Same as VGA.
