General Complaints about the New Xbox One Experience

... to complain about missing features and negatively impacted functionality! Heh ha. Beers on me! Yaaaay!

 

What can i say.... some people LLLOOOVVVEEE playing dashboard.

They took it away because hardly anyone was using it. The new windows 10 like UI is WWAAYY faster than that slow windows 8 hunk UI which use to be on xbox 1. And its less boxy too. There are more people out there who love windows 10 than windows 8. All my
friends and people ive met on XBL which incl peps aged 10+ said they hated that previous slow windows 8 UI on xbox 1.

But they didn't replace it with anything. That is a net loss of one function. As vikingland1 asked: did removing it free up resources for speed? If so, why not a On/Off feature. Faster browsing with it off, or slower browsing with it on, but with hand gestures
available.

I don't play dashboard, I play games. Heh ha. They added the context menu to the previous UI to access functions that were readily available via voice commands on Kinect. When Kinect was no longer a requirement.

So, the actions were designed to be as quick as possible. To make it quicker you could snap the app you knew you were going to access, and then unsnap it. To make it available on the context menu. So, say I set Game DVR to be instantly snappable...

Old UI: "Xbox, Snap Game DVR." Or, tap Home twice, hit down.

New UI: "Xbox, Snap Game DVR." Or, Tap Home twice, scroll down to snap... click, click, click, click, click... scroll through the apps to Game DVR because it no longer saves what you last had snapped... select it. Start recording. But don't unsnap it or
it'll cancel the recording. Didn't used to do that.

... it's a minor chore. But I reckon as I said it's teething probems. Still, gimme the old UI til this one is finished. Meh, also, Netflix doesn't appear in the One Guide either. Every other service I'm not subbed to does though. Awesome. I can get specific
Films & TV set up in it. Am I missing something there? Maybe I need to play with it a bit to figure out how to get it to highlight Netflix content.

 

One thing I"m upset about is the inability to now keep parties snapped. I don't always know who's talking, so I liked having the party snapped, so I could see at a glance who was saying what. With the way it is now, I can no longer do that beacause bringing
up the party interrupts the game that I happen to be playing...

The Kinect voice commands are great when they work. If I had to estimate they work about 80% of the time.

 

Not sure if the voice commands have got worse since the update, but last night I was adding some codes and used the voice command 'xbox use a code' and it took 2 or 3 goes to respond each time (I had 4 codes to use). Also when using 'xbox unsnap' it took
2 or 3 goes too. Before the update I never had a problem with these commands and they always worked first time!

 

I love the windows 10 like ui on xbox 1. Im happy to click. Click. Click. Scroll. Rather than click... wait.... click.. wait... wait... scroll... yup more waiting... that previous windows 8 ui was so slow on xbox 1.

 

But, but... that's the dash. I don't care how quick I can get from Home to OneGuide. There's no rush.

But when I'm gaming all the meta-stuff that's supposed to complement the new generation. Achievement tracking, Game DVR whatever... it now interrupts gaming, instead of complementing it. Without the Kinect that is.

It's faster on Xbox 360 to hit the guide and check out some achievements, it was faster on the original UI of X1 to snap achievements and have a look... now it's a several button-pressing, scrolly-rolly, navigation adventure.

Upgrade fail. lol {=D IMO

 

The thing that baffles me is if I play a BC 360 game on my X1, it shows up in my recent played list..... but actual X1 games don't??

As for the new dash, I'm anti social so I don't use any party features. Hand gestures were horrible so I disabled them month ago. Voice controls work good though...

 

Yeah 360 games jump up by a "last played" date, but X1 games go by a "last achievement earned" date. So they tend to get buried by 360 games no matter how often you play them. Heh ha. Don't know why they changed that. {XD

 

Over a week ago, I ordered an Xbox One + Kinect for the hand control feature in Plex. Yesterday, I received an Xbox One + Kinect without the hand control feature in Plex, Hulu, or XBOE. Is that not even a little bit of bait-and-switch?

In my experience, it's just not fair to sell an item to us as having a certain feature set but remove parts of that feature set during the unboxing and upgrading; it's not illegal but it's a little illegitimate.

 

The funny thing is, once we get use to the current UI, they will change it again. Lol I like using my Kinect for voice commands, and Kinect games. The hand gestures didn't work well for me

 

One of these days Microsoft will stop flip flopping and figure out what they want to do with this console. That will probably be decades from now, but I bet it'll happen eventually.
