General Complaints about the New Xbox One Experience

After updating my xbox one I find that Microsoft has gone belly up on its features because some fan boys are not happy with the Kinect. I'm completely dissatisfied by the fact that Microsoft has decided to turn off it XBO Kinect navigation gestures. Not
because the whole idea of using it in games is completely taxing and brings down the user experience but because the only thing it was good at (XBO navigation gestures) are now gone. You know I got the XBO because the Kinect separated it from everyone else,
and now it's just like the rest. I don't know about the rest of you but I don't like being sold something and then have it force ably taken away because some one else wasn't using it. At least give people the ability to turn it back on.

General Xbox complaint.

I purchased an XBOX in November 2015. The two primary uses for this device were a video game console for my 8 year old son, and a blu-ray player. I have to say that after one year of owning this product, I have little good to say about it.

1) The controllers are terrible. I received one controller with the console, and purchased one additional controller. The controller that came with the device did not work, and had to be returned immediately. Within 6 months of using the controllers,
one of them began experiencing what I have learned is called “drift”. It acts as though the joystick is continually pushed up. I looked into getting a replacement controller again, and after MUCH digging on the Microsoft website, learned that the warranty
on controllers is only 90 days. Now the second controller is also experiencing drift. It seems as though the lifespan of the standard controller is less than a year. If you read further down this letter, you will realize that we are not even heavy users
of the XBOX. If I had to guess, I would say that we have used the XBOX for 100 hours. This is unacceptable to me. Now, in order to continue using my console, I need to outlay another $150 in controllers.

2) The game selection for 9 year old boys is weak. We own Lego Jurassic World, Minecraft, and Minecraft story edition. There seem to be only a handful of additional games that are age appropriate for him, and none that interest him. Specifically regarding
Minecraft, I purchased the game believing that it would have similar functionality to Minecraft PE, which my son uses on his iPad. Again, after MUCH digging, I discovered that you cannot join 3rd party servers. His preference is to play Minecraft
on his iPad now.

3) The blu-ray player picture quality is poor. In particular for dark action movies – think Harry Potter. The action scenes are not even close to sharp.

4) The console seems to require lots of updating, and it takes a long time – upwards of 20 minutes. This is particularly annoying since we don’t use the console often (refer to points 1 & 2) it needs to update almost every time we turn it on. We also
have an old Wii in our house. Ironically, if we want to use the console for Netflix, we have gone back to using the Wii, as it never needs to update, and is always ready.

5) The Microsoft website is difficult to find information on. See points 1 &2. I am having a hard time finding where I can submit my feedback. In fact, I have had to chat with online for 10 minutes, and posting here was the best option I was given.

At this point, I have 100% buyers remorse. I do not feel this is a good product, and I really don’t think it is a good product for my family demographic. If I was still in the return period, I would return the entire thing. As it stands, I would like
some replacement controllers.

 

General Xbox complaint.

I apologies for the inconvenience i'll attempt to troubleshoot the console with you to get it to full power then we'll work on what is best for the controller "drift" if you have any questions about the Xbox / Microsoft website feel free to ask.

For the low amount of games for the 9 year old i'd recommend picking up a kinect (if they still sell them where you live) it's a fun activity to do buy a game such as dance central you can boogey until you are tired!

Lets start with the troubleshoot first hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds until it powers down once off unplug it from receiving power and sending HDMI signals after that wait up to 5 minutes then plug it back in and boot it up. The green
Xbox logo should appear it'll take a moment until it goes to the home screen i'd like for you to test blu-ray and see if it is working better.

 

I need the Kinect more now than I did before the NXOE. The context menu is gone when double-tapping home, and the features it used to lead to have been moved, and made several actions more numerous to access than before. In some cases they're just broken
now. Game DVR is borked. =[

I hate having to talk to technology too. Never been a fan of waving my hands at it either. Never liked the Kinect. There's something satisfying, convenient, and just 'right' about quick navigation via buttons on a controller/mouse-keyboard.

 

The hand gestures were not very responsive. It's way easier to use the controller. Very few people used them.

Did the hand navigation work for you? because it was very hit and miss for me . I much prefer voice commands over hand gestures.

I think that it should still be there for people that use it though.

Can someone explain how removing the hand gestures option helped the XB1. Did it make it faster or free up some ram or what? I'm asking because I honestly don't know.

 

Or the hand gestures responded when you didn't need them, as I couldn't pick up a glass to have a drink without Kinect bringing up the little hand icon. It got so annoying having to turn away from Kinect to have a drink of, erm, pop!

 

You are complaining that you can no longer do things slowly and awkwardly.

This undermines your credibility as a sensible person.

I had that happen alot too, or following my dog. I actually turned the hand gestures off.

^I agree! Hope you're not directing that at me Tzar. lol I've been known to talk about missing features in the "upgrade" from last to next-gen. I'm not happy at other peoples expense, about features being missing.

If they're removing features it should be to replace them with something else, of equal or greater worth/functionality. A bit like MP-only game developers removing SP campaigns to make room for massive maps and loads of content... wait, oh, no, they don't
do that. lol It's the same standard of MP with a SP campaign missing... consumers should be peeved.

Seriously I think the NXOE is still in its teething period despite the long Beta/Preview thing. I wouldn't be surprised if all the previous Kinect functionality will make a return. If it doesn't... consumers should be peeved. =]

^ Roger roger. I'm affected by the NXOE myself. But I'm on the opposite side to the OP.

Without a Kinect plugged in I can't Game DVR without having Game DVR snapped in. When on the old dash I could snap it in, start recording, and then snap it out. Or do something in-game, snap it in, and record however many minutes of gameplay.

Used to be like, double-tap home, press right. Done! To get to the Snap menu to pick an app, or to quickly access the app I last snapped in. Achievements, Game DVR, whatever. Now it's double-tap home, press down five times, press left... EVERYTIME, regardless
of what I had snapped in previously.
