there should be no reason what so ever you get problems using an USB HDD otherwise they would not make them.

you should be no more likely to get HHD errors than normal HDD ..

I don't want to get into this to much but the fact is the hardware is designed to work the way it does, sure error's can happen but it wont be just because your using an USB HDD

again why would they make them if that was the case ..it's more like just some people will have their opinion to why you should not use USB HDD's

I have used them for many years as back game storage etc and never had any issues.

sure they can fail but no more than an internal .. I have never had a problem in all my years with the power coming from the usb port along with millions of others.

its just a case of a few unlucky people have had issue's but that just how it is with all electrical products

 

the only thing you should check for as with any device is FIRMWARE up dates for the hardware this includes HHD Blu-ray Player even TV's these days

for example lets say you have just got back from the shop and you have a spanky new USB 3 2TB external HDD

I would first connect it to my PC and check the website for the device to see if any firmware updates are required if so follow the instructions on how to update the firmware then use the device as intended

I do this with every new build or TV, CD/DVD/ Blu Ray Player, Router, GFX cards Basicly everything.

I also check back at later dates just to see if any new issues have been found with hardware I own and update firmware as and when needed .. but I'm just a geek like that lol

 

Might even be why I don't seem to as many PC related issues as some people, I like to keep my system well maintained, plus I used to be an PC Hardware enthusiast, it was My Job and hobby ... I'm not claiming to be an expert

although I have enough Practical/hands on knowledge to resolve my issues that I come across.

just out of having to much time on my hands I'm copying all my games back to the xbox internal HDD then I will see if windows 10 can fully scan all sectors

I am 99.9% sure when the Xbox one formats the external drive it creates hidden or parts of the drive windows 10 O/S cant see/use ?

probs to do with copyright or copying games .. but I don't know for sure

I dare not leave my games on the external drive and then scanning it ... just in case it has a negative effect of the File system Xbox One creates lol

might as well see if my WD My Passport Ultra needs a firmware update at the same time, although it didn't when I first got it, but might as well check while I'm at it.

 

Hmmm lol not good but could of been worse ...

after moving my games from my external to my internal Xbox one Drive one game got stuck at 48% (evolve)

so had to cancel then uninstall game.

seem's you may bump into the odd issue when moving games around ... kind of do at ya own risk lol

Everyone, while I was reporting this issue to official support, I mentioned something I realized I failed to mention here, and I would like your input on the matter: to put it simply, when I try to start campaign, and it goes to the never-ending loading
screen (the 1 with the red and black cog logo, spinning gear, and tips), I've observed that there is no sound at all when this screen shows up. So, I ask you - when you see this screen, do you hear anything at all (sounds or music) or is it dead silent like
mine?

In addition, I keep seeing the same tips over and over again (no more than 3 or 4 of them at most); do you guys generally see more than 3 or 4 tips on THIS loading screen (as in JUST this loading screen, not during others, like in a multiplayer loading screen).
If you're not sure, I'd like you guys to do an experiment for me - simply start up GoW:UE's campaign a few times and count how many different tips you get as well as which ones. If you get more than 3 or 4, then that will mean something's wrong about that
too.

The guys over at support seem to think the game may not be fully installed, but I find that hard to believe, because the console seems to think that it is, and as I've already stated numerous times, the game's been reinstalled at least twice, so you'd think
the 2nd go-round would fix that. I'm waiting for them to offer some new ideas.

I'm starting to believe it's an issue with the external HDD, since I'm now having issues with the FM6 demo even starting at all - I've posted about this particular issue in another thread (it should be pretty easy to find). I'm going to start taking steps
to put things on the internal HDD to see if this might indeed be the case - the details of my efforts in this regard will be posted in my other thread, which I would link to if I wasn't using the IE app on the XB1 (they really should have a copy and paste
text feature!). Hopefully, if there is luck with my efforts over there, maybe it'll mean I'll have some luck in figuring out what's up with my version of GoW:UE. I guess we'll see.

I may not have shown it very much in this thread, but I really do appreciate you guys trying to help me. Even though quite a bit of the advice given was redundant/repetitive, I like that you guys are genuinely putting an effort out there to help me. After
all, it's the journey, am I right?

To be honest I'm starting to think an USB 3 icy box using a couple of 3.5inc 7200rpm HDD drives would be much more reliable, although not stating it will.

should at least speed access times up and the HDD's will run a lot cooler wich is always a bonus ..

on the shopping list for Friday ..

 

Okay, I FINALLY finished re-downloading GoW:UE onto my internal HDD and gave the campaign a try - I'm happy to report that within ~15 seconds, it started right up and looks gorgeous! I haven't checked to see if the textures are up to par on multiplayer yet,
but I'm confident that they will be.

All in all, I think this proves that my external is actually running SLOWER than the console itself and/or it's simply getting old. For all I know, it might just be the USB cable that connects the external HDD to the console - to figure that out though,
I'll have to do further tests.

Pending those tests, I'm considering getting a new external HDD - do you guys have any suggestions/recommendations? I'm currently using a SeaGate 3.0 USB with 2TB of total space - I don't recall which version it is though, but I can tell you that it's roughly
the size of a typical cellphone. I prefer something of equal size in space or better than the 1 that I have that runs as fast, if not faster, than the console, that's also less than $100.
