Gears of Worst: Failed Edition

I find it interesting that a digital game is having issues. You'd think that since it's digital and is the same files downloaded that everyone else has that everyone else would be having the same issue too, but that's
not the case, as we've already discussed. So, what makes mine different from everyone else's?

The possibilities are more numerous than you obviously realize. Just a few I can think of from the top of my head.

A service alert that involves 'content purchase and usage' can cause problems with a download.

Even with a reasonably good connection to XBL, if there are other issues going on that can cause packet loss, you'll have problems. Packet loss is literally
"lost information" that happened somewhere, sometime during the download and it has numerous causes. If all the information isn't there, how can the game function properly?

Did you try the last suggestion I made, by downloading the game straight to your internal HDD? Even if it's unlikely, an intermittent issue with the external HDD or the console's
ability to properly send that information to it, can cause it to write the information you downloaded incorrectly.

That's just what I can think of in a few minutes...

Connected to XBL but Gears of War can't load my 'file'

I'm connected to xbox live, have tried restarted the xbox and wireless connection etc. All is fine.

When I go on to Gears of War Ultimate Edition though it comes up saying...

'Gears of War: Ultimate Edition services login failed, access to online multiplayer is not available.

File download failed, please try again later.'

Any help or advice?

This is the worst collector's edition gimmick since Gears of War 3.

 

While all are valid points, Blue, I've downloaded it multiple times and still have the same problem. You'd think some of those 1st possibilities you mentioned would be mitigated by that fact.

And no, I forgot to download it to the internal. Frankly, I hate that it has to be 1 or the other. Why not just give me the option to also choose right before I start the download?

 

My physical copy was stuck on the loading screen for 5 minutes, that's it though. You've been having weird problems gg, I wish I had an answer for you.

 

I had same issue with metal gear in the end it's was bad sectors on my external I couldnt install any game properly after 300 gig had bad textures or slow loading in the end I got a new drive but the other works perfect after a format and defrag

I wasn't going to post again but checking back I can't believe you haven't tried a Hard Reset :-/

People can correct me if I'm wrong but when you phone Xbox Support with any kind of issue I believe in the vast majority of cases a Hard Reset is one of the first things they will suggest. How many people here or how many people do we read say a Hard Reset
solved their problem? I'm not saying it will fix your issue but you 'could' have saved yourself a lot of hassle and headaches.

As Cheesy mentioned above. He had the same problem with Metal Gear and it was a bad sector on his external drive so I'd definitely try installing to your internal also why you are waiting for replies from Support etc.

 

I'm not to sure so don't quote me on it, but if you have a bad sector/s on your hard disk I would say it's highly unlikely you would be able to install the game in the first place

as it would fail to wright to the bad sector unless the sector has been marked before hand, there for it would of been written to the next good sector, so would have no ill effect.

it could be the data once written has at some point has become corrupted at some point but again unlikely as GG has download the game more than once.

how ever if the HDD is starting to fail and it does have bad sectors which are not marked as bad sectors and data does manage to get written to them this could case a whole host of odd issue, from Very slow performance (due to trying to fetch corrupt data
from bad sectors), missing data etc.

software that repairs a bad HDD simply scans every sector of the hard disk and any Bad sectors are marked as bad so the hard drive will not write to that sector anymore.

I would say this is ok if you only have a few bad sectors but my advise would replace the drive ASAP

I still thinking a hard reset may solve GG's issue although if it does not then I would try a replacement hard drive.

if you had another drive you could connect to your xbox you could transfer the games from your suspected hdd then the drive you suspect may be faulty connect to windows PC and use the Error checking option to repair/mark any bad sectors, if there are any
windows error checking will tell you after scan disk.

GG, when support make a suggestion are you going to say "No I won't do it because that's not the way it should be?" People have said to download it to your internal HDD but you won't because you in your words say "you should have a choice where to download
it". Then people say try a factory reset and you say no. People say get a refund and buy it on disc and you say no. You can't ask for help and then be stubborn and say no to peoples advice. It makes no sense.

 

^ And this is what I'm not quite understanding. Don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at GG, end of the day he's the one that has to deal with these issues but I don't quite get why he's not ( almost seems like refusing ) trying out some of the suggestions

Surely of all people on here ( as GG uses these forums quite a bit like myself ) he's seen people post countless times with advice to Hard Reset? Ok it might not work, what has it cost, 5 or so minutes of his time.

All I know is, if I posted because I had an issue, I would look at the replies and go through each one until hopefully it worked. Ok I wouldn't take some stupid advice like, rub jam on your backside and sit on your console for 1/2 hour but I would follow/try
the more sensible ones.

sadly I can confirm the Jam does not work .

after applying the whole pot of jam liberally (I used robinson's strawberry, the seedless stuff, good quality brand) and sitting for a good full 45mins, has had no effect other than wasting a good pot of jam and making a mess :/

I shall try marmite and report my findings ....

could of been the wrong flavour of jam ? other than that I'm clueless ?

 

Be careful using marmite you don't want it leaving brown stains in your pants

 

I genuinely feel sorry for you as this game is epic (excuse the pun)

I'm not going to offer advice though as you don't want to take it, so i'll just leave quietly whilst chainsawing the next locust that comes my way.
