Gears of War - Too Dark?

So I was watching some videos today on IGN of the 360 v One graphics but one thing struck me hard was how DARK the new "upgrade" looked. Some did look upgraded but mostly it looks like they simply cranked the contrast down.

I get they wanted to go for a "gritty" world but some of the video was so dark I can see myself uppping the gamma again to see enemies or even cut scenes. Why is the new trend on X1 to make things so dark? To me it seems a bit off and would take away from
any graphics upgrades.

Gears of war 4 looks good. Ghost Recon Wildlands should look pretty sweet too. I know Gears is HDR and I think Wildlands is too. In a couple of weeks there's Mass Effect.

 

With Gears of War free, how many will go on to play the rest?

I never liked the controls of Gears of War. They were just too different to be intuitive for me.

 

There's quite a few reviews up now and I've seen a few say it does look darker than the 360 version. None mentioned having to up the brightness etc though.

Most reviews also said it does look better than the 360 version, not a massive leap but definitely noticeable.

 

Well it's probably the gamma or whatever they call it. Where you buy the game and then says size your TV screen with the arrows on the edge of the screen. Then says to make it dark till you cant see the box or something. I keep it bright.

 

I'm not sure how it's done in the new edition, but in the original GOW, there was a place in the menus where you could choose different settings for video. I chose the one called "Vibrant" which made a huge difference. Not so much in how dark it was, but
it really amplified the colors, so it was easier to see them in the darker areas.

 

Gears of War was always meant to be dark and gritty. Obviously in the 3rd game things changed because the war took a turn.

I will more than likely keep it on the darker end. Maybe a bump up. And that is a big maybe
