    Gears of War 5 causing black screen crash on Windows 10


    Anytime I run Gears of War 5, after about 6 minutes of use, it crashes to black screen. Doesn't matter if I'm playing the game or sitting in the menu. After a certain amount of time, I get a black screen full system crash. I have to hard reboot the system.
    It only seems to do this with Gears 5. No other software running in the background, as Gears won't run at all if anything else is running. I can run games through Steam, Uplay or any other launcher and don't get this issue. Its specifically Gears 5.

    I've upated Windows, updated my video card, motherboard, bios and anything I could think of to the latest drivers. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled Gears 5, and it still has problems.

    I'm using Xbox Game Pass on PC to play it.

    PC Specs:

    AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (not overclocked)

    32GB of DDR4 Ram

    Gigabyte AMD 5700XT graphics card

    Windows 10 (updated to latest)

    Hi,

    Sorry about your problem there. The latest drivers for the AMD 5700/5700XT are it seems a little unstable at the moment. Driver version 19.7.5 seems to be more stable.

    What you need to do:

    1. Download and run Display Driver Uninstaller Download version 18.0.1.9 from guru3d.com

    As you are downgrading your graphics driver, I highly recommend you use the above tool to completely remove your current GPU driver from your PC. Failure to do this could result in either the older driver failing to install or the exact same issues still
    occurring. It's very easy to run.

    2. After removing your driver, re-boot your PC.

    3. Download and install
    AMD driver 19.7.5 for Windows 10 64-bit

    There maybe more stable later versions of this driver. Unfortunately, I can't tell you for sure if this will definitely fix your issue as I'm an Nvidia RTX user.

    After testing other games, it seems to crash on any "Xbox (Beta)" PC games. Gears 4 and 5 primarily. I'm testing other games on the Xbox app, and Killer Instinct seems to run alright.
