Gears Of War 4 Microtransactions Don't Let You Pay To Win! Feel Better Now?

No it's just selling an incomplete game only to sell more through gullible gamers.

Before you picked up the Sniper Rifle by grabbing it from the spawn point on the map.

If they are following the Microsoft Model they used in "HALO 5" you'll get the sniper rifle by obtaining the card to request it for use in ONE SINGLE ONLINE GAME.

So you can run around as cannon fodder for those who are paying to win... or you can pay to win yourself.

Or you can not buy it and it doesn't become an issue.

 

This is the reason that games with heavy doses of micro-transactions bother me. Games like DoA and Evolve are the main culprits. Even though they are only cosmetic is irrelevant to me.

Example, if I support a developer and buy the game day 1 for €69.99 and then someone else buys it used for cheaper a few weeks later, they get the same content as me. Why not show your appreciation to the people that bought your game new and don't charge
extra if they want their gun to be blue. Don't charge extra if they want different character skins.

Wouldn't it be better to charge the people that bought a used copy the extra money if they want different colours? I mean that's what they used to say was the reason for having so many microtransactions. They said it was to recoup some of the money they
lost to used game sales. They used to cry us a river.

It might sound entitled or that they owe new game purchasers something, but c'mon, it's getting ridiculous. If you buy the game brand spanking new I think we should get some extras that people that buy used get especially when those extras are just different
colors for your weapons.

Obviously this doesn't bother others and that's fine, but me, I choose not to support it and avoid the game even if it's a good game. CD Projeck red showed us their appreciation with 16 pieces of free dlc that released after the game came out. I'll give them
my money.

 

I can't fault "Evolve" because that's how you SHOULD do it if you're going to do that.

You're not penalizing people who don't buy the Day 1 DLC.

"Dead Or Alive" is a trainwreck. Greatest fighter on console smashed to pieces and they try to sell it back to you piece by piece.

You don't know much....In Halo Guardians,there are still weapons to pick up around the map,except in one Arena game mode (which is limited to one life and two weapons) and Warzone (and maybe firefight)

During Gears 4 beta,there were weapons to pick up around the map,and pretty sure it will be the same in the final version..

 

From the list describing the available micro transactions it doesn't appear that any will unbalance the game in PVP, these all seem generally cosmetic (weopon skins/characters) or bounties to increase XP/character level.

The main game mode in which I think this will be more prolific is horde mode. I don't know how this mode will work in GOW4, but I'm guessing more of the same in that you will have to buy fortifications etc, and the micro transactions will just make horde
mode easier. Assuming the horde mode is all player vs AI (i.e. not like beast mode in GOW Judgement), then at least it won't give a certain player an advantage as you are all on the same team.

Seems to ruin the point of the challenge in horde to make it 'easier'. I personally never buy micro transactions, but if I'm on a horde team on GOW4 and somebody wants to throw real money at extra fortifications etc then more fool them.

It does a bit more than slightly bother me. As someone else mentioned... "all the psychological tricks in the book"... this is one I just find greedy and rather underhanded.

With H5, Their req packs have literally hundreds, more likely thousands of different armor customization items and weapons, vehicles, power up offerings to use in Warzone. While it's true that you can earn every one of them just by playing the game, you'd
literally have to grind (and I mean G R I N D) to get enough points to earn that stuff.

To make it worse, not only is it all RNG, but the stuff is also tiered. Their are certain things, like armor types that are common, uncommon, rare... etc. All the lower level stuff (a.k.a. less appealing junk that few people like) is in the lower tiers.

Now for the part that makes it go straight into the underhanded category for me. If you want that really cool, "Rare" armor item, You have to grind your way through all the stuff in the lower tiers before you stand a chance at getting it. Otherwise, you
might spend req points (or real $) on a "Gold Pack" only to find it still strewn with lower tiered "Silver" items that you haven't unlocked yet, because only a small number of items in a Gold pack are "guaranteed" to be of uncommon, rare and etc. quality.
So, thanks to RNG, even the rare items aren't guaranteed to be what you wanted, they're only guaranteed to be rare items.

Sorry MS/343... sounds like a F2P tactic to me. Problem is, H5 wasn't free, I paid $60 for a game that didn't even have $60 worth of content at launch and got bored waiting for it to trickle out enough content, a few pieces at a time, to keep me interested.

Gears sounds like it's on the same basic track. I'm going to be watching the content that it will ship with closely before I decide if I'm buying or not. Something that I didn't have to give much thought to before H5 came along...

The whole industry is getting out of hand. When I bought Black Ops II it was, for the most part, a complete game. Spending some coin got you a guaranteed result, such as a certain weapon skin, etc. Now take B.O. III, it's slot machine; put in some coins
and you may receive a payout. I haven't spent a cent, though hear people in the lobbies talking about spending their allowance, etc.. Crazy in my opinion...but it isn't my money, so who cares?

 

RNG = Random Number Generator, it's like the algorithm roles a dice and assigns you a number and you get loot based off that number. I mean, RNGesus will bless you with heavenly loot if you just believe!

@Blue - I agree that it looks like Halo 5 have used RNG to sell more REQ packs to the 'want it now' generation and it is a very sly tactic, but it's nothing new. I just don't like how all loot systems are going that way, some games I actually enjoy the grind,
but I don't want to be constantly grinding in every, single, game. It's part of the reason I haven't played a single game online in Halo 5, my mentality was if I'm going to be doing that, I'm just going back to Destiny, haha.

Anyway, we'll see how it plays out with Gears 4, I didn't like the idea of the cards for Rise of the Tomb Raider, but that ended up not being so bad because it's really unnecessary to spend money on them.

It's a tactic that only really took off this gen.
