Gears of War 2 freezing on title screen - save/profile corruption?

Hello,

I purchased the Gears of War bundle Xbox One and received the download tokens for Gears 2, 3, and Judgment. I installed Gears of War 2 and have been playing through co-op campaign but suddenly at one check point the game froze and crashed. Upon restarting
the game, it would get to the title screen, say that it was "Updating network settings" or something of that nature, and then would freeze again with this constant audio stutter.

I've been searching forums for answers to this issue and seeing posts dating back to when the game first came out on the 360. Supposedly it is an inherent flaw within the game itself that corrupts user profiles and save data making them both unusable. Has
anyone come up with a solution for this? I've read of people on the phone with Microsoft support who were offered no solution, trying to reinstall the game, deleting and then recovering gamer tag profile, master reset of the console, etc. Nothing seems to
work.

I desperately want to play these games and a big reason I got the GOW bundle was the added incentive of getting access to these games. Now I'm midway through the campaign with no way to continue from my last checkpoint. Help!

Gears of war 2 freezing when launched

Been playing gears 2 on xbox one for awhile. Now the game gets to the title screen and just freezes. I tried loading the game under a different profile and it works fine. I went back to my 360 turned on cloud storage and loaded gears 2 there with the
bad profile, it synced with the cloud save and froze there as well. My guess is its a corrupt save (unaware how that even happened but that's another issue). Now my problem is how do I remove that corrupt save from the cloud? As it sits now I am unable
to play gears 2 on xbox one at all. Any suggestions?

Sorry to hear you're having trouble playing Gears of War! Sorry to hear the steps you've gone through already aren't working. If you're not too far into the game are you able to try starting a new game to see if it continues to freeze with that save?

If you haven't already be sure to check out our
troubleshooter and run through all the steps there. At the end is a survey, please fill that out as well

 

I've got the same problem, got to the part in the game where we need to blow a door open and the game crashed. Can't get it to go passed the update network settings. If they had the problem way back, how have people been able to finish the game in Co-Op
mode? My sister and I were trying to play through the whole trilogy.

I've attempted to go through the troubleshooting tips provided and no luck. It seems between the two of us trying to play GoW2, my account is the one that causes the game to freeze and crash. My partner would successfully sign in and was able to navigate
the game, etc. We uninstalled and reinstalled the game, deleted my profile and redownloaded it from scratch. As soon as it finished downloading my profile the game crashed. I would even be fine playing co-op campaign as just a Guest but the game won't allow
it - it requires a signed in Xbox Live account.

Any chance of a patch being released to fix this issue? I know it's an older game at this point and it seems that this issue existed even upon its time of release, but since Microsoft has the rights to the series surely some sort of patch would be viable?

 

Definitely an odd issue.

To clarify have you also started a new game on both accounts? So long as you fill at that survey the issue you're having will be passed over to the appropriate team to look into.

 

I am also having this same problem. It is related to one profile when at the menu screen it locks up and sound stutters and then returns to the xbox home screen. I just got off the phone with xbox support and we reloaded, reset, reinstalled and still no
fix. From searching other forums others believe it has something to do with the gamer achievement/progress files being corrupted but no one seems to have a fix.

Supposedly it corrupts your profile and there's no fix

I'll play around with it. You can play split screen as a guest but that's it

I experienced this issue today and followed the video to the 'T'. And it worked for my account!

 

I've experienced the same issue on my Xbox One (only in Co-op) where one profile got corrupted and solved it by doing this:

1. Make sure both profiles are downloaded on the console. I did this by downloading them in Gear of Wars 1 (maybe this works with another Xbox360 game also).

2. Make sure the console is offline, I did this in the network settings "Go Offline".

3. I started GOW2 and made sure no profile was signed in.

4. In the game I started lesson 5 in the training grounds.

5. After lesson 5 started I signed the corrupted profile in (Xbox360 settings in the game, decline/ignore any message to connect to Xbox Live) and went back into lesson 5.

6. I got the console back online in the network settings of my Xbox One.

7. I connected the profile to Xbox Live (Xbox360 settings in the game), I noticed the game did not freeze.

8. I reloaded the game and got back into the Co-op mode with both profiles signed in and played the game further without any problem.

I hope my method can help anyone else but no guarantees.
