Gamtertags In Use But Doesnt "exist"

So theres many gamertags that say they are in use when you try to take them but there is no profile when you send it a friend request. i read that zune and/or games for windows use the same system but they arent compatible with xbox live? how can a name
for xbox live be taken by something that will never be able to access xbox live? Hoping to get an official response and maybe they'll take that into consideration and make these names accessible to players. Especially with this massive gamertag reset they
just did

First, delete your profile from your Xbox.

Then go use the "Recover Gamertag" feature to log back in.

oh one more thing can we please work on getting our 360 gamerpictures back and perhaps a marketplace for them im sure everyone would be happy to pay for them

 

Even if they're used on a service like Zune or something, the gamertags are tied to a Microsoft account. So if the owner were to decided to get an Xbox, they can keep the gamertag they've already chosen.

It's done that way so it's easier for people to keep the same account info across all services. Otherwise, you'd be forced to change your gamertag for every Microsoft service even if you're signing into the same info. It's easier for the consumer.

 

do you know where i can try to make an account for games on windows. so i can check availability there posssibly?

 

Games for Windoes shut down a couple of years ago. Either way, if the system says a tag is taken, then it is in use somewhere on the servers. Even if you were to find the gamertag, there would be no way for you to use it unless the owner changes the tag
or it's released by Microsoft at some point..

 

Also keep on mind how you're looking for the tag. The system doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So for example, if you were to do a search for Mind 5et it would show as available, but if you try to claim that tag, it would say it's
already in use because you are using it as Mind5et
