Gamestop closing stores

Digital stuff is going to be the main outlet one day, that much I agree with. It saves on materials used and it adds convenience. I mean who (collectors / traders aside) would go physical > digital if the digi prices were reduced below physical price by
a good margin?

 

Does Best Buy in the US trade games it does in canada

Dunno if they trade Canadian for US. But on topic, do you have any music plus, tower records, or blockbusters around anymore? GameStop is trying to adapt. I believe they are just a future dinosaur tho. We'll see.

 

I wonder if the digital push has anything to do with it.... hmmmmmm

Well... not sure of the disc>digital % is.. but I would assume it close to 30-40% digital...and that does actually translate to 30-40% less sales for GS..(yes I know there are other retailers so it would be the same across the board, but people like walmart,
bestbuy have other things other than games to sell) now take into account.. no digital...no used games... no trade in... so add on another high % of lost sales for them...

Old days 10 games sold.... maybe 8 came back for trade in and resold....then trickle down to maybe 4 from that.. then down to 1... so theoretically 23 games from 10.. with 13 being a higher percentage of profit

Digital 10 games... only 6 discs.... down to 4 down to 1 so only 11 games from 10 with one being a higher percentage of profit..

sorry.. no business can survive like that... they had too many stores and closing them is only the start..

 

@ bird 125 does Ford get the money from the sell of a used F150 pickup? I have no sympathy for the developers once person A buys a game they own it if the choose to sell it that is the right they own, Now Gamestop on the other hand is money grabbing rip
off they will give you around 20-25 dollars on a popular used title and then turn around and sell it for 54.99 or 49.49 if you are a rewards member.. Don't like Gamestop at all..

 

I regret trading in my games to them.

 

Nope no music plus,nope no tower records, and no blockbusters all gone not sure if we ever had music plus or tower records though

 

That it does not, but with Walmart doing game trades now I can see why they might be giving up on the gaming front. Walmart gives a slightly bigger payout for trade ins and they are open 24/7 so they will always have midnight releases. I understand that
many people have problems with Walmart's electronic department not being great with knowledge of games but thats not completely their fault. I worked at walmart and being in the electronic department you have many resources to learn about games if you don't
know about them. The Reps that come to the store are always happy to help with teaching you about their games. Yeah walmart should do a better job making sure their employees know what they are doing but luckily my walmart has a couple of guys that know exactly
what to do and knows, from my experience, better than GameStop. Just sayin, Ill be doing my game purchasing at walmart from now on.

 

Cancelled my Netflix for Amazon streaming. It's already paid for itself with the Prime free shipping. Even their proposed $20 increase for a year will still be worth it.

 

It sad there people lossing there job. But I think you guys happy they are. Hope they die on the streets for selling used games.

 

Retail jobs are a dime a dozen...... students will always be looking....

 

King sometimes that only job they can do in life. Because of age or medical reason. And some people in the medical part can't go to college. Because they can not afford it. Unless you are god like rich. And paid each and everyone that fallin that list. You
need to think about those poeple. And not just for yourself.
