    Hi so im trying to get a game from games with gold but it tells to join ultimate which my ultimate expired a couple weeks ago but i bought the 12 month xbox live gold thing but its not letting me get the free games and telling me to join ultimate or buy gold

    It's not a glitch. Gold (or Game Pass Ultimate which includes Gold) is required to play online.
