Games with Gold free game attach to account when I already have a physical disc

Hi everybody.

A bit ago the free game was Deux Ex: Human Revolution. I already own the game in hardcopy, I have the disc, and it's installed on my 360. However, I wanted to add it to my free games list, if for no other reason than so I don't have to put the disc in the
Xbox One when I want to play it.

The thing is that when I went to the Xbox Live page with the game, it just had my achievements etc. There was no "get with gold" button I could use. I hadn't even installed it to my One yet, so I'm not sure why. I even tried on my 360 to get it, no dice.

I know it's past the free with gold time, I only thought to check forums now. In case it happens in the future, is there a way that I can associate a game with my account if it comes free with Gold in the future? I gave a few game hardcopies to a friend a bit
ago since I wasn't playing them, but if they come on the free list, I'd like to add them so I can play again, and beat him at them. I have Gold, MS can check my account for the time I've had it; I'd just like the option to have them attached to my account.

When i cancel my gold subscription do i lose the game
I appreciate that happens with the free monthly game

I am with internode and am getting the same error with Halo 5 preload. Had the problem with Forza 6 but a physical disc install solved the problem. I do not want to have to buy a physical disc of a game I have already bought just to install and play it.

Only digital purchases are tied to a Microsoft account. Physical copies of discs cannot be "tied" to an account. You will either need to get those physical discs back if those games ever become available to backwards compatibility, or you would need to purchase
the digital licenses for those games. You are unable to swap physical games for digital titles and vice versa.

Thanks for the answer, Blitz. It doesn't quite answer my question though. I have the game hardcopy, but if it's not tied to my account, like you say physical copies don't, why shouldn't I have been able to "tie" the digital copy to my account? It was free
with Gold (which I have), so shouldn't I have been able to "buy" it digitally? There's usually a button with that option with a price of $0; I didn't see one anywhere though, on either Xbox.

I know having it in two formats (both a digital disc on my shelf, and a digital copy attached to my Live account intalled on my Xbox) is somewhat redundant, but I'd like the option of just being able to switch games from the couch without changing discs.
I even cleared my 360 of DX:HR to try and accept the free version, but no link/option was available.

Regarding the games I passed to my friend, that was a theoretical situation if they became free some month in the future. Since he would have hardcopies, he could play those; if I "purchased" the free Gold digital copies, I could play those. I'm curious
whether me having played them previously (and having achievements in my account) would stop me from "buying" the Gold free digital copy, like it seemed that Deus Ex did.

You don't seem to understand how the system works

Physical disks require you to have the disk in the drive

This does not hand you the license for a digital copy

If you want the digital copy you should be gotten the games with gold one when it was available or buy it now

This was an upcoming feature but due to the massive protest 300k people against the install and put away the disk this would've required you to be online to verify that you ain't copying the game to 50 consoles. we don't have the option to install and put
away the disk anymore it is for future reconsideration

And no achievements nor playing disks would prevent you from queueing free or paid games

As it wouldn't be in your download history

Deus ex wouldn't have prevented you from buying the game

Unless you were doing something unrelated like trying to launch it from the home screen

In order to buy a game you need to go to xbox storefront not the game hub on xbox one or home screen launch game

Ideally you wouldn't have the game in the drive anyways when you are trying to buy a digital copy

The digital copy was available in the Games with Gold, I was wondering why I couldn't find a link to get my free digital copy. I didn't try to launch it from the home screen, and I hadn't installed it on the One yet. I was curious as to whether me having

If I had a bigger issue with not getting it, I should have thought about this forum earlier.

The previous post just did not answer the bloody question of "Did me having a physical copy of the game and achievements stop me from getting a "Games with Gold free game" link on the store game page". There were buy links to the one expansion that I don't
have. I understand how to buy a digital copy of a game, I did it with the Halo bundle. That is why I did my second post, not because I thought having a disc automatically gave me a digital copy. I know how the purchasing system works for disc vs digital. I
wanted to know why there was no button to get the Gold digital copy in the spot it has been for the other games like Supreme Commander, which I did get.

 

Hi, having the disc game does not prevent you getting the free game with gold, if you already own it. If you have the disc in the drive at the time, then the xbox would have read it as you having the game, and replaced the buy game/get free with the play
game tile instead.

You can only get the free game license/s when you get the Free Games with Gold or hit the Buy $0.00 button. Free Games with Gold changes every month, so if the game you were aiming for were part of the Free Games with Gold before and you were unable to get
it, then the only thing to do now is either purchase the game digitally or wait for it to be free again.

I do know that the free window has passed, I was just more curious as to why I couldn't find the free with gold button. I have the disc, so getting the digital copy isn't exactly a priority. There was simply no "Buy $0.00" button that I could find on either
system.

The only way that I could think now of it possibly happening is like StuartATrueRed says, that possibly the disc was in one of my systems at the time. Even if it was in one system, the other system should have still had the "buy" button I would think. *shrug*

I didn't think to go to the webpage, where I got Supreme Commander earlier. It's not a priority, I was just more curious than anything.
