Games with Gold Downloads Freeze System

This is the most frustrating thing ever. Almost every time I have tried to download a Games with Gold game, it starts for a second but then freezes and shuts the system off. The system then turns back on but immediately turns off again if I sign into my
profile (note: I can sign into my profile just fine if I don't go on Live).

This problem completely bricks the system from letting me sign my profile into Xbox Live.

Troubleshooting steps I've done so far:

1. Delete Profile

2. Delete the Downloaded game cache from Storage>Games.

3. Delete cache items in Storage>System Items

4. Delete System Cache

5. Disabled auto-downloads along with background downloads.

6. Turn Off

7. Redownload profile and BOOM bricked again. Freezes, turns off, continues to turn on and off as long as signed into my profile.

What is the deal Microsoft?

Mister Darcy, the steps I've gone through are as follows. Went to Xbox marketplace, games, add ons, search by name, "B", borderlands. Entered the extras menu, see all, underdome. Purchased Underdome DLC and started download. The download started fine but
at 4% complete my system freezes. After a manual power off and turning my system back on the system automatically begins the download again. Again my system freezes at the 4% mark. To keep the freeze from occurring I have to hurriedly access active downloads
as soon as my system powers back up and cancel all active downloads. Other DLC (even larger files) have since downloaded without issue. I've attempted all the "support.xbox.com/.../screen-freeze-solution"s
but none of these steps have allowed me to download the Underdome DLC.

 

I can't Download the Backwards Compatibility Patch for any game (freeze)

everytime i try to download the 5mb patch for a backwards comatible game, my system freezes.



I cleared the cache and reinstalled the system update, restarted my system and still, when i put a old game in, it ask me to downlaod a 5mb patch, I pick download and a white window pops up like it's going to download and nothing happens, it freezes.



Please help



(the games I'm testing with are Sniper Elite and Deathrow)



I have a 120g Hard drive, and a white x-box (originally came with the 20g hard drive)

 

Update: The only way I can log back on to my profile safely is if I sign in on the xbox website and delete the Games with Gold download from the Download Que after performing all the steps listed above.

However, if I attempt to download this Games with Gold game again, the EXACT same problem happens every time. Other games or purchases download just fine. It is only Games with Gold downloads that brick the system.

This is indeed a strange issue, and one I am not able to reproduce on my account or console. Can you answer the following questions to help me understand a bit more here?

1. Are you able to download anything else? Demos or other games?
2. How much room do you have on your storage device?
3. Are you able to download your profile on another console? If so can you try downloading the Games for Gold title there?
   
4. Which game are you trying to install exactly? Currently the Games for Gold offer I have is Dust an Elysian Tail, is that what you have as well?

ye the same thing is happening to me just bought digital version of spider-man 2 and now whenever i try to install it console just keeps resetting itself

 

also still got 96gb of space

and this problem just started today was there an issue with xbox live today?

 

I have in the past and it was just the Games with Gold download. I'm not gonna try again to see if its just the Games with Gold titles cause it takes forever to get things working again. However I did wait a couple days and now I can download Dust. This
has happened to me 4 times now throughout the past few months when I've tried downloading a game, and the only fix was that I didn't bother downloading it for a couple days.

I have like 120GB free.

I wouldn't be able to download my profile on to somebody else's xbox, I wouldn't even want to try though cause I'd have to put in so much time to fix it if I messed it up.

Bummed that Mad998 is having the same problem but at least I know it's not a hardware problem and is somehow a glitch in downloading process.

Mad998, did you try my troubleshooting steps to see if it fixes it? Including the part in my 2nd comment about removing the title from the Download Queue?

 

ye removing the game from queue allowed me to sign in without console resetting i'll wait a few days and try installing the game again see if it works then

 

just discovered it is not just Games with Gold as Mad998 already experienced.

The system is *** itself up again when I tried downloading World of Tanks.

 

Hmm, have either of you tried downloading the game to a different storage device? By chance have either another Xbox hard drive available, or a USB memory device large enough for a game install?

 

so yeah whatever happened has killed my hard drive cant even get to dashboard with the thing plugged in which is annoying but i'll be buying a new one tonight hopefully that fixes all of this

 

getting a new hard drive seems to have fixed the issue was able to download the game i would recommend trying that Kirky if you're still having issues

 

Not sure if that counts as a fix for the issue though since the hard drive works just fine until the account tries to download something. But I guess that's as far as we're gonna get with this.

 

I don't have the money for a new hard drive right now so until I do the only way around this is to:

1. Take out hard drive.

2. Use large enough USB drive to download the games.

3. Put hard drive back in, and transfer games to hard drive from the USB.

This problem doesn't make any sense... but there's the fix =/
