Games Will Not Finish Downloading to External Hard Drive

Console: Xbox One

Games: All of them.

External Hard Drive: Western Digital My Passport Ultra 3.0

Issue: I purchased the external hard drive to get more space for games. It formatted without incident, and the games I purchase from the Xbox store start to download to the drive just fine, only to give up and get stuck immediately,
ranging from 20% and lower. Additionally, when I attempt to cancel a stuck download it seems to stop, only to resume downloading a moment later despite my commands. Also, there are times when I'm maneuvering through the store or system settings when things
will take too long to load and fail. This has only started happening with the drive attached.

Solutions I have tried:

-Soft & hard reset

-Formatting again, both through Xbox and computer

-Switching which USB port the hard drive was hooked up to

-Clearing local saved games and local Xbox 360 storage

-Updating Xbox One

I just want to be able to download games without incident or hassle to my external hard drive and play them, but have no idea what is wrong with my flippin' Xbox or hard drive! Any suggestions?

Forced to download updates.

I plugged in my external hard drive last night to move some games from my internal to my external and xbox live proceeded to force updates on over 10 games without asking me (I have the console update box checked but not the games
and apps one). I have mediocre internet and I cant be downloading stuff for hours unless I plan it so I cancelled the updates for all of the games. The entire games were deleted from my external hard drive after I cancelled the updates. Do I seriously have
to spend multiple weeks redownloading these games because I didn't want to finish downloading forced updates right at that time?

 

More than just a gaming console

Hi all, new to forum, need to ask about external hard drives. We have the slim 360 250gb model. Now say I am up to about level 5 in a game and I want to go to a mates place and he has the same game.

Will any external hard drive be able to be connected to the USB port on the back of my Xbox and the my profile or game level downloaded to the drive, then I can just take the drive to avmates place, plug in and play when he puts the game disk in. Will i still be on the same level and then when I return home, can I download the level I amat from my mates onto my hard drive.....

If so what external hard drive would be the best and if not what do you recommend.

Sorry to hear you're having troubles! What happens if you install games to your internal storage, is there any change or issue with that?

 

Once I unplug the hard drive everything returns to normal. I deleted a game to make space and download another game, and things worked fine.
