Games that allow 2 local players (same xbox) and 1 remote?

Can anyone recommend some games that allow for 2 local players on the same xbox (2 controllers) to play with a remote player? We'd like to play some games with my GF's daughter out of state (we all have xbox accounts and xbox live subscriptions in both locations) as a family.

What I've found is the couple of games we've tried do not allow this (Monopoly for example) you can only play with everyone local or a single user per xbox remotely, so the whole family can't play together. I've also found it's really hard for me at least to tell just by reading about a game if multiple local players and a remote player is possible.

No game that I know of does this. You're either playing local coop or online multiplayer, not both.

Yes, it is possible for 2 local players in the same room, on the same console to play against one other remote player in some games like Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Horizon 5, and Rocket League. However, not all games support this feature. You can check the game’s description or manual to see if it supports local multiplayer with online players.

Regarding the complications with the 2 local players in terms of who is logged in to the console, you can create separate profiles for each player on the console. Each profile can be linked to a different Xbox Live account, which allows each player to have their own saved games, achievements, and settings. You can switch between profiles on the console by signing out of one profile and signing in to another.

If it's splitscreen then you could try the Store app, it has a filter on local coop or local multiplayer, as far as I know it will show both Xbox and PC games so be aware of that.

What games are you trying to play?

Not all games support two players locally.

Look on the back of the game box (or the Marketplace listing's description) for more information. It will tell you about local capabilities ("Xbox 360") and Online ("Xbox Live") and it will say something like "Players 1" or "Players 1-2" which will tell
you how many people can play on the same Xbox 360.

It will also tell you the online capabilities, but this will say "Online multiplayer 2-12" for instance.
