Games suddenly runs smoothly

I have an Xbox One S for a two weeks now and I am playing NBA 2k19 on my 4k TV, which apparently does not support Gaming HDR so the games run on 30hz. I have played almost every day now, but yesterday, without doing or changing anything in my setup, the
game just started running perfectly (i am assuming it does run on 60hz now)

Why did this happen and how can I make sure that it does not go back on 30hz?

When turning off the xbox it could be on standby (depending on your settings).

With a power cycle the xbox is completely shutdown (this could be achieved within the settings or by unplugging etc.) This clears the cache of the console and can help solve a wide variety of issues.

My guess would be either an update got pushed out for the game, or the console, but most likely it was an update for the game.

HDR has nothing to do with the refresh rate.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) simply provides deeper contrast and richer color on HDR enabled TV sets.

You might have to contact 2K support and ask them if a recent update on NBA 2K19 enabled a smoother framerate.
