Discus and support Games sometimes launch at 30/60fps even though I’m at 120hz? in XboX Insiders to solve the problem; I have a Series X and a LG CX 55”.     I have a Series X and a LG CX 55”. Whenever I boot up Black ops Cold War the game automatically disables 120hz and literally runs at 30fps or 60fps with major stuttering. The thing is my settings are all at what they should be and this doesn’t happen every time. If I restart my Series X most of time time it will fix the problem and display in 120hz with the settings all the same. 4K, 120hz, VRR etc... I’m not sure how to fix this but if someone can help me out I would be very grateful.

    120hz can be translated to 120FPS, an xbox one s only does 60fps on some games, most are locked at 30 and res drops to keep 30 sometimes.

    The s does not have enough grunt too run games a 120fps at 1080p you would be lucky to get 30 at 1080p sometimes.
    So hypothetically, if the console struggles at 1080p why not just dial down the resolution even further to 720p (like the Xbox 360) to boost the frame-rate to hit 60fps or maybe beyond, is that possible?

    That's assuming that it is the resolution that is giving the console issues at attaining the frame rate--aside from the game itself being hard-coded at 60fps, that is.

    Often when playing shooters on PC, players will choose settings that will push performance over quality, even though their rig can support higher resolutions.

    None of that makes a much of a difference as you WON'T be playing any AAA games at 4K at 120 FPS. A 4K 120Hz display won't make a blind bit of difference if a game is locked at 60 fps. And many of the launch games will still be 30 fps games.
    Digital Foundry has already proven that gaming at 4K on a 120hz display even when the game is locked to 60fps for the most part is better than gaming at 60fps at 4K 60hz, as the refresh rate of a 120hz panel is faster than a 60hz panel,

    also, have to bare in mind that i'm not just wanting a monitor just for the next gen consoles but also for my 4K gaming PC as well, as i will be "killing two birds with one stone" with a monitor upgrade, going from a 4K 60hz monitor to a 4K 144hz.

    And i already know that i'm not going to see 120fps on Series X at 4K, my PC's RTX 2080Ti can't even reach that at 4K, but that may change when i get the RTX 3080Ti.

    no, and the fps will be about 30 on most games on the one s if that as it goes lower sometimes, the odd game will hit 60 but rarely.

    xbox one x even has trouble hitting 60fps in some games.
