Games Pass Ultimate Subscription expires soon. What do I do?

Ok. I bought the ultimate upgrade for a $1 maybe 6 months ago or so without realizing fully what it was. I dont have any complaints it was awesome. My problem is that its about to expire. I dont do monthly subscriptions for anything except my phone. The
3 month cards dont seem like a good deal since id have to worry about it every 3 months. I cant find a 12 month subscription for ultimate. Could I wait for it to expire and then reupgrade a 12mo subscription for gold or gamespass for a dollar or 2? Or does
it only work the first time you do it?

I tried finding this question elsewhere but alot of pages later and no answer.
