Games on external HDD are not being seen on our living room Xbox

So, I'm considering in trading my Xbox in for the Quantum Break edition console, however I DO NOT want to re-download 800GB of games. So since most of my games are on an external HDD and some on the internal, I figured I'd transfer everything to external
and just have them ready for the new Xbox. Only, I tried this a couple months back and it didn't work.

A couple months back, I wanted to play Elite Dangerous on the living room TV, so I took all of my games on my external USB 3.0 drive and brought them to our living room Xbox One. I normally play on the bedroom one. I have my profile on both consoles. When
I plugged the drive in the living room, the Xbox would not see any games on the drive...which is absurd. The drive appeared, but appeared as an empty drive does, and if I recall it even stated 100% space free, but don't quote me on that. So I took it back
to my backroom Xbox and all the games were there, as usual. Any idea why this is? I thought the Xbox was all about having your games accessible on any Xbox system you sign in from?

    :)

How do I stop downloads on every console in the House?

Here’s my setup: Xbox One X in my bedroom (my main play on xbox) with external hard drive with all downloaded games on it, Xbox One in the living room set to my home Xbox (which everyone uses), 360 in my daughters room. My account is on all 3, only the X
is set to log into my account automatically. Network transfer is active and to save space I only put games on the living room Xbox I’m currently playing.

I always purchase the free Xbox live gold games then immediately stop the download. (On the X) that way if I ever want them in the future I own them to download.

Problem is, that the living room Xbox One and the 360 (for 360 games) continue to download the games...

How do I stop the other consoles from downloading the games?

Also, pins are set to an account, not to the console? If I change pins while signed in the living room, they change in my bedroom. Which is a pain because I dont keep all the games on the living room console that are on the external hard drive attached to
    the X....

  3. Suggestion for Xbox One.

Now that the Xbox One supports External Hdd usage. Microsoft should release a patch to where we could put our 360 games on the external hdd. What do you guys think?

    Hiya Staarlord,

I could be wrong but I believe it has something to do with the Home Console setting. Now this could get tricky since you are only allowed to change the Home Console of your account 3 times per year.

So if I don't have it set to home, I'm fine? I've always found that confusing because I still want to be able to share Live memberships and titles with my wife, since we play the same Xbox's

  6. No, I think it's the opposite. I think the USB device won't display the games because you are plugging it into a console that is not marked as your Home Console. As for sharing gold, you will only be able to share your Gold membership on the console that
you have set to Home. You can download your profile to any console and have Gold, but only those on your Home Console will experience the benefits of Shared Gold.

  7. I think that if you move everything to your external HDD, and then login on your new xbox, plug it in, with the xbox one, all your licenses are stored online, so i really think it should work.

External HDD not being seen by XB1 any more

Hey arrow2555! The hard drive sounds like it has failed, the data on it is most likely gone. I would suggest replacing it to ensure it doesn't happen again. Thanks!
