Games on external Hard Drives

I have a 3.0 USB External hard drive and games that I've downloaded and saved on the device will not play. i.e I go to my games and apps and select the game i want to play and it says loading your game, and it sits there for a sec on the game load up screen
and pops up with an error message stating that its unable to start game. But if I transfer it to the internal drive it'll load up and play just like it should. Any reasons or ideas for this? Any possible solutions? Thanks in advice!

All my games are gone

After the recent update, all my games have disappeared from my external hard drive. In system setting storage, it list the external hard drive and says 242.3 GB of 2.8tb free. But under my games and apps it shows no games on the external hard drive only
the games on the internal hard drive.

External hard drive problems

I was playing Xbox one evening and my console froze, so I restarted and tried playing again, most of my games were installed on my external hard drive. I tried playing every game I had on my external hard drive and none would start.

I completely reset my console and external hard drive, i installed games on my internal hard drive and they all work, but the games I installed on my external hard drive still do not work.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling the games on your external HDD if they somehow got corrupted.

If the game still refuses to load (but loads fine on the Internal), I'd completely erase and reformat the external hard drive. Then, I'd reinstall the games on the external again.

If it still acts up (or if erasure of the drive is interrupted due to an error), your external drive may unfortunately be showing signs of dying.

It seems something went wrong with your computer hard drive. as by installing that specific game casus any issue will be other problem.

If all of games refused to install in your PC, then it there must be any technical hardware issue, which needs to be solved by hardware engineer!

reading your problem statement, it tell that you're not facing any issue while playing game with external
drive. but the only concern is HDD. so better try to concern with any hardware technition or go to computer repair shop.

Is this game stored on your Internal Storage or External hard drive? If it's on your External Hard drive kindly move it to your Internal Storage then remove the hard drive. This is to check if it's due to the external hard drive.

What nestor said is this happening during playing games and also are the games on an external hard drive if this happens on an external hard drive and only the games crash it could be a dieing external

I moved my games from the internal hard drive to the external hard drive to see if my games won't kick me to the dashboard I tried it yesterday with a external hard drive I had never used for my Xbox. My games were never on the external hard drive they
were in the internal hard drive. Also I downloaded trove and it kicks me to the dashboard as well.

Yes, I have an external hard drive connected to my Xbox, and the game appears to be installed on the external hard drive.

As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.
