Games On Demand Pricing

Why are games on demand much more expensive than going to a shop and buying a game on disc? Surely if Microsoft, etc want us to buy games digitally doesn't it make more sense to offer them cheaper than buying a disc which can be sold on which they don't
want. For example, Assassin's Creed Rouge on the Xbox Marketplace is £49.99 but if you go to amazon.co.uk you can get it for £21.85 or £22 on game.co.uk. From the Marketplace there is no Packaging, no Disc, and no Fuel costs. I would love to buy more games
from the Marketplace so that I am not tempted to sell games when short of money but when games are regularly more than twice the price as in the shops it just isn't going to happen.

    :)

yes the prices of games on demand are rediculous, and even way more so for us europeans, and no they wont change it

    -

its up to the headquarters in different regions to decide on the price, and the guys working for microsoft in our region think the prices are good

    Hello,

Microsoft does not set those prices. The regional restrictions, pricing, and all that jazz is handled by the publisher that decides to put the content on Xbox LIVE. The Xbox LIVE marketplace isn't a retail store, it doesn't have price matching policies in place.
If you see something for cheaper in a retail store, by all means get it in that retail store. The way things work on most online marketplaces like Xbox LIVE, PSN, etc. is they let the publishers set those prices.

Which is why you see games like Modern Warfare 3 still listed at $60 on the marketplace when it was released almost 2 years ago.

Personally I`m not into all these digital downloads myself, always prefer to have a hard copy.

Still a vinyl junkie at heart. Was a sad day when CDs replaced LPs, but now I see they are starting to make a comeback Games On Demand Pricing :)

Ridiculous price of on demand games

For the most part I agree the prices are too high especially since the lowest a 360 game will priced on demand is $20 and you can find a lot of those games for under $20. However sometimes the prices are fair I bought Saint's Row 2 on demand for $20 which
is the current price for it at Amazon and Gamestop.

Also Fable 3 is listed as $39.99 on demand while it is $35.77 at Amazon and $39.99 at Gamestop. Mafia 2 is listed as $29.99 on demand Amazon has it as $25.08 and Gamestop has it at $29.99. So there are some games you can get on demand for the same price
    they sell at major stores.

Except Tales of Vesparia. Before it hit GoD for £19.99 it was retailing at around £150 per disc because its so rare. Since it hits GoD you still can't buy it in the UK for less than £50-60 (around 80-90 dollars at a guess)?

So this one is incredibly cheap :)

wow thats insane. i know the games are pretty expensive i have bought a few because they were rather hard to find in store.
Yep, I have a physical copy of Tales of Vesperia and wouldn't part with it for less than £100..... although I have no intention of selling it.... great game.... very hard to come by
Cant see how you could possibly ever get £100 for it?

    Gamesbasement - £39.99 Free P&P In Stock

    Amazon - £59.99 £2.03 P&P In Stock

Lots of copies on ebay under £50.

    Total Ripoff -

I really wish people wouldn't buy into games on demand.... It's the industries way of getting rid of hard disks so that you can no longer borrow games off of your friends and hurting the used game market. At least when you buy the hard copy you have something
    of value to trade in.

Games on Demand is bad for the consumer.
I completely agree with you. A total rip off. Also, the publishers would luv to have us all buying games in this way, as you say, to destroy the used games market. Sometimes people are short of cash, and need to trade to get new games. If games on demand,
ever became the only way to get games, many gamers would play no where near as many games.
