Games Load Faster Using External HDD

For those that aren't in the beta preview I just wanted to let you know that using an external HDD not only gives you more storage space, but also loads games quicker. Results vary slightly from drive to drive but here is a few results from the drive I tested:

Seagate Backup Plus Portable 2TB USB 3.0 STDR2000201

TRIALS FUSION - 'to start menu' INT= 36 secs - EXT= 34 secs. Each track loaded approx. 2 seconds faster on the External drive.

RYSE - 'to main menu' INT = 32 secs - EXT = 28 secs.

THIEF - 'to main menu' INT = 49 secs - EXT = 39 secs.

TOMB RAIDER - 'menu screen' INT = 23 secs. - EXT = 20 secs.

TOMB RAIDER - 'Continue Game' - INT = 25 secs. - EXT = 22 secs.

POWERSTAR GOLF - 'start screen' INT = 32 secs. - EXT = 23 secs.

DEAD RISING 3 - 'main screen' INT = 60 secs. - EXT = 41 secs!!

DEAD RISING 3 - 'Continue Game' - INT = 50 secs. - EXT = 35 secs!!

FORZA 5 - 'start screen' INT = 28 secs. - EXT = 28 secs.

Time to load Circuit - 'Bernese Alps Full' INT = 29 secs. - EXT = 22 secs!

Time to load circuit - 'Le Mans Full' INT = 42 secs. - EXT = 33 secs!

Time to load circuit - 'Long Beach Full' INT = 42 secs. - EXT = 30 secs!



So even if you have plenty of space left on your internal drive it's worth getting an external one for the extra speed increase!

Load times really are a joke this gen

Load times are due to shitty HDD's being used in the consoles. Use a faster external or void your warranty and install a faster internal and load times drop significantly.

Not all games will have problems but some will especially the larger ones, something your going to have to deal with unless you get a faster drive.

 

Xbox One external harddrive problem

It accesses the games even faster. I have a Toshiba 3TB external HD and all games load up alot faster. When you hook up your external HDD, move all of your games over to it. I remember how long it took for Forza and GTAV to load up before, now they load up so much faster.

 

Interesting. I'll try hooking up my brother's old external HDD tomorrow & run some tests for myself.

I have a question about DATA TRANSFER RATE

what is a good speed ?

I'm looking at a sea gate backup plus 3 TB

DATA TRANSFER RATE is 4.8 Gbps

Is this any good ?

I have an enclosure that can hold 2 drives in either independent mode or JBOD config. I have them in independant mode at the moment and would like to keep it that way if possible. Will the X1 recognize 2 separate drives plugged into one USB port?

 

For those who are using the externals & keeping them connected, which USB slot are you using & where are you putting the device?
