Games freezing, possibly a heat issue?

So recently when I've been playing games, my xbox will freeze, crash all the game sound together into a loud buzz, and quit the game. The rest of my xbox will then work fine, and this never happens with apps. I have been assuming this is a heat issue, as
I feel my xbox when this happens and it feels pretty hot, but the heat doesn't seem to affect the rest of the xbox's functions.

Games this has happened with:

Massive chalice (this one the most)

Rogue Legacy

Shadow of Mordor

Also, just a side note: In the day, when I turn my xbox off I just leave it on standby, it quick turn on mode. However at night when I want to fully turn it off I put it into standby then turn off the power. Is this a bad thing/is it causing my problem?If
so, what can I do to fully turn it off that's better?

Xbox freezes after a few seconds

I used to get freezing games too. To rectify, I got a cleaning disc ( one with the bristles ). There could be some contaminent/dust on your lens that will cause it to read incorrectly and eventually freeze. Another thing you might want to purchase
is an external usb powered fan to draw out the heat cause that eliminated my freezing problems too due to over heat.

 

Does your XBOX360 freeze?

My console does freeze. It freezes about once every two months, often during a weather extreme. The hot temperatures really cause it to over-heat and that is likely the impetus to the freeze. If I don't have the heat on and the unit hasn't been on or long it will freeze from time to time in those winter months.

 

I don't know if it is causing your problem but it is a bad thing.

You should not disconnect the power while it is in standby. It can corrupt the hard drive.

You should always fully shut down the console before disconnecting the power.

You can do this in 2 ways

either switch the console to energy saving mode then turn off.

or press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until console fully shuts down.

Either way make sure the light on the power brick is orange before disconnecting power.

 

Okay thank you. As the games always have to install on the hard drive, even disc ones somewhat, do you think that the data for the games themselves could be corrupted?

 

If they were being updated as you disconnected the power then yes they could be.

You could try deleting then redownloading them to see if that fixes the problems.

You could also factory reset the console as this would format the internal drive fixing any errors. But this would delete everything including saves but if your console is connected to live your saves should be synced to the cloud and should download next
time you play the game.

Only factory reset once you've tried deleting and reinstalling though just in case whatever is wrong has stopped your saves from syncing.
