Games for Windows Live installer fails - can't run fallout 3

Hey so I need to install games for windows live to run fallout 3 (via steam) on windows 10. I got the installer here: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=201134

It encounters an error at about halfway through the download - looks like it's trying to download from a bad link. Here is the log:

How can I get this installed so I can play fallout 3? Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Try the guide on the
Steam forums, it contains a link for GFWL and then explains how to remove it from the game as it's no longer required now.

After you've done this you'll need to check the rest of the guide as without the other fixes, Fallout 3 can be unstable on Windows 10.

Fallout 3 for PC sold on GoG.com no longer has GFWL included. It also has the stability fixes pre-installed.

To make Fallout 3 run properly on a typical Windows 7 or Windows 8 machine you actually NEED to mod it. To stabilise my Fallout 3 I had to install the FOSE mod, an anti-stuttering Mod and an anti-crash mod.

These modifications don't change the game, they just keep it stable. Without them the PC version is a bit of mess.

Got running now at 1080p with a near constant 60fps.

To configure Fallout 3 to run in compatibility mode on an older version of Windows, follow these steps:

Right-click on the Fallout 3 shortcut icon or the Fallout 3 .exe file.

Select "Properties" from the context menu.

Click on the "Compatibility" tab.

Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:".

From the dropdown menu, select the version of Windows that the game is designed to run on. In this case, you would select an older version of Windows, such as Windows XP or Windows Vista.

If you experience any issues while playing the game, try checking the box next to "Run this program as an administrator" as well.

Click "Apply" and then "OK" to save the changes.

Launch Fallout 3 to see if the compatibility mode has resolved any issues.

I have a fallout 3 problem myself. I have fallout 3 GOTY, my game disc does not read well on the one but the 360 it reads fine. the dlc disc of fallout 3 is fine and can read on the one.

Because I preordered fallout 4 I got fallout 3 game itself for download but no dlc with it so I put in the dlc disc and the console installed the dlc no problem. I run the game and check downloads and none of the dlc shows up at all not even when I load
the game but it's on my game manager as installed...

Fallout 3 is a Games for Windows LIVE title and New Vegas carried the Games for Windows branding.
