Games Don't Automatically Update?

When I first got my Xbox One at launch, I recall that games used to auto-update, but would stay in your queue at 99% until you actually put the disc in to finalize the update.

Now I notice that my games never auto-update, and I have to put the disc in and boot the game for it to update. (like Last Gen). I was under the impression that one of the OS updates allowed games to be automatically updated and wondering what happened to
that? Its frustrating to have to boot the game to update. (Especially games like Evolve that require a 6.6GB patch).

Does anyone know the official way of how games are suppose to update?

Games automatically deleted

I haven't turned on xbox one in nearly a month and had it completely unplugged sitting on a shelf for about 2-3 weeks. I just plugged it back in tonight and tried to play titanfall. It says I need to install. So I check the my games and app screen. 3 Of
the 5 games showed they were uninstalled. Titanfall, ghost. And ryse were gone. Only black flag and forza were still there. also some of the apps I downloaded were uninstalled. Twitch and skype to name a couple. When I turned it on it did have me sit through
a 200mb update....could this have caused it? Anyone else had something like this?

Hi there, check your instant on settings, this allows for automatic console updates, not sure about game updates as mine only seems to do them when I turn he console on, don't need the disc in though for all games. It seems a little temperamental:

You don't buy updates. They are applied automatically for games that you have or when a new system update is available.

I believe the update was not part of this problem. The exact same thing happened to me with Dead Rising 3. I install the game. After the install, try to run the game. It pops me back to the xbox menu and won't play the game. I called tech support and
they suggested installing the game offline. Then when complete, getting it back online so the update for the game is installed after the whole game install. This still did not fix the problem.

Here's what did fix the problem:

I believe it came down to was a hard reboot of the console. After everything was installed, I shut down the console, unplugged it for a bit and then restarted it. Once I did this, everything played just fine.

Previous to that all the shutdowns I did were a simple shutdown and restart. That final time, unplugging it seemed to be the trick.

Hey JBenny5781,

If your Console is on standby mode it will receive updates. For those updates to take effect you will need to initiate those updates when your console is on. Kind of like the first update to the console. It was received on your console and when you turned
it on it completed the download.

Same goes for games. If your console is on standby mode it will take effect once you start your console and complete the download. You can also access your game updates by going to your Games & Apps tile and highlighting the game in question, press the menu
button and search for update.

As far as the wifi being on, your console will receive updates even when its on standby mode and not wired in.
