  1. Games Copied From External Fail to Start on Series X

I recently got an xbox series x. I copied some of the games I had been playing on my xbox one over to my series X, but some of them fail to launch. There is no error code given.

    A few examples:

AC Valhalla - pulls up the splash screen, freezes for a couple of minutes, and then crashes to the home screen. No indication of loading, sound, or anything and the home button often wont work until it crashes out

Destiny 2 - pulls up the initial loading screen which is animated and has some music, but just stays on that for a few minutes until giving a connectivity error and crashing out. It should be noted that I am able to play other games online on my series x
and can still play destiny 2 online on the xbox one.

Fortnite - Pulls up the initial loading screen, freezes for about 2 minutes, and crashes to the home screen.

Warzone - similar to Destiny 2, this one is animated and looks like it is trying to load, but stays there for a few minutes before crashing out. Again, I am connected to the internet, can play other games online, and can play warzone on the xbox one.

As far as I can figure, the issue seems to be specifically with games that I copied from my external that then were able to update to a Series X version.

    What I’ve tried:

Deleting and installing the games again

Clearing the cache and doing fresh installs

    Resetting and keeping the games

    Completely resetting and fresh installs

None of the above have worked.

    :)

    Choosing a hardrrive

Fair enough, a slow internet connection is as good excuse as any.

Be aware however that while that drive will work on Series X, you won't be able to play Series X games directly from it. Series X games will require faster access and read speeds. My understanding is that the Series X games can be 'backed up' on an external
drive and then need to copied/moved over to either the internal SSD or the External SSD's that will be available for the machine.

The Series X will read and play Xbox One games from an external drive though.

Xbox Series X/S keeps asking if I want to download game on internal drive, while I set download to the external

Thank you for the quick reply. Any plans on when it can be configurable ?
I'm afraid it won't ever be 'configurable'. The real reason why your games can't be downloaded to the external drive is because you can't actually run Series X|S games from an external drive.

External hard drives are far too slow to run Series X|S games. They need to be run either from the internal drive - which is a fast NVME SSD - or the optional memory expansion cards for the Series X|S consoles. Not even SATA based external SSD's are considered fast enough for X|S games.

You can move Series X|S games for archive purposes to copy back to these faster storage locations to play, but you can't run Series X|S games from external storage.

Games that have not been optimised for Series X|S have no such limitations.

Not sure why the 'Independent Advisor' doesn't know this well known fact.

Newer games require faster storage bug. Will not let me -download- to external harddisk/ssd

To transfer games from the internal hard drive to an external hard drive on an Xbox Series S or X, navigate to "My games & apps", select the game you want to transfer, choose "Move or Copy", then select the external drive as the destination and confirm.

How to transfer xbox one games to series x?

You should be able to do that, yes:

    "Power down your Xbox One.

    1. Unplug the external drive.
    2. Connect the external drive to your Xbox Series X, S.
    3. Power on your Xbox Series X, S.
    4. Wait for the external drive to be detected. This may take a couple of minutes.
    5. When the drive is detected, you are free to copy any games you want onto the Xbox Series X, S internal storage."

    Xbox Series X questions

You have two options with the Series X, either the official expansion card which adds 1TB extra storage, and you can run your Series X Enhanced games directly from it (link below):

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/p/seagate-storage-expansion-card-for-xbox-series-x-s/940j83pk147r?SilentAuth=1&wa=wsignin1.0

Or you can run a USB External hard drive, but you will need to copy your Series X Enhanced games from that to your internal SSD before being able to play. This is the cheaper solution if your happy to copy the games back and forth as you wish, other wise
it's the official Seagate expansion card.

    Hope that helps
