Games are crashing after a power failure.

Players on Steam and Windows may see frequent crashing while playing

Examples of the error codes being seen are 0xc0000005 (access violation) and 0x0000001d (failed install or uninstall of system-level software)

This may be caused by hardware issues such as faulty RAM, file errors or corruption, or PC settings.

In these cases we recommend that you follow up with the hardware manufacturer for your device to ensure that you have the latest firmware installed.

I found the fix, I had to reset the BIOS by pressing the Reset CMOS button. After I did that and reset some settings, the games stop crashing. I have no idea why, but it was something that crossed my mind.

I am contacting AMD Support at the moment, I guess the other info I can share is I was in VR before the power went out, so I was playing VRChat with SteamVR using an Oculus Quest with the Virtual Desktop streamer. So not sure if that could be the issue that is causing it problems. I remember having an issue where my PC was turned off unexpectedly while in VR, which when I was still using Windows 11, caused an error with File Explorer, and reinstall Steam fixed that.

Given everything you have attempted so far, we really need to go back to basics with this to determine where the fault lies.

Go back to Step 5 highlighted by the IA earlier....if you can, download that USB on a different PC/Laptop, one you know is working. Sometimes downloading and extracting on a malfunctioning machine can cause issues. If you don't have access to another computer, no worries.

I would now install Windows and format the main drive to remove everything (make sure to back everything up)....keeping files and folders is fine in principle but, in practice, it often keeps the issue as you have no idea where the issue lies, it could be in one of the folders you keep. So:

- Install a fresh copy of Windows, format main drive;

- Once installed, head over to Windows Update; check for Updates; install all updates listed, restarting as necessary. When all the Updates are installed, head back over to the Update area and check for updates again...if there are none, click check for updates once more just to be sure. Once there are no updates:

- Head over to the AMD website and use this tool: AMD Driver Check It will, hopefully, detect both your Graphics Card and your CPU and recommend the GPU driver for the 5700XT as well as the Chipset Drivers for your 1700. Personally, I'd manually search on that page for the drivers needed but the driver check is easier

You should now have a completely factory fresh install of Windows and all the necessary drivers. Do not install anything else. Now install one of the games that hasn't been working properly...you may need to install the Xbox App as I am not sure if that is included in Windows install these days...if needed: Xbox App

If the fault was laying with Windows, then this should have resolved it and you can game again; if it is still causing issues, then I'd be looking at a hardware fault
