Games and discs won't load.

I tried watching a movie but it said it needs to be an Xbox one game, DVD, or Blu-ray. And it was Blu-ray. I tried to play a game and it said the same thing. Help?

The first step I would suggest is a power cycle of the console:

support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console

You may also want to try clearing the Persistent Storage. Go to Settings>Disc & BluRay> Clear Persistent Storage

Let us know how you get on with these steps and if need be further suggestions can be made.

Odds are the system just isn't reading the discs because the ODD is not working. We may just need to get you set up with a repair or exchange. You can do that yourself here, myservice.xbox.com, or you can call support at 800-4-MY-XBOX. They'll help you
through setting that up.

The ODD issues with the X1 have been fairly common, I had it on my first one, and the options for exchanging them are pretty good considering the bad situation that prompts them.

Thank you both, but it turns out I just needed to let my Xbox sit for a while without using it and re-pop the game in.

The disc must be in. Basically a verification. Any disc based game won't finalize an update w/o the disc loaded.

I would recommend looking into having that repaired. I would recommend checking
the Microsoft Device Support page
and see what options you have available. When you hear weird mechanical noises like that, it is usually a case where there is a physical problem that needs to be addressed.

The normal troubleshooting that I would recommend for disc drive errors I would not recommend to you as it has the potential to ruin the disc, which can't really be repaired, only replaced.

It definitely sounds like your disc drive is failing. If you have any other discs (games or dvds) I would try them to see if they have the same issues. If you find that none of them work then the disc drive has become defective. I would visit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/devices?OSMCSignIn=true&wa=wsignin1.0,
sign in, and register your console to check the warranty and replacement status of your console, even if it's from 2016.
