Games and Apps won’t select on Xbox dashboard.

Why does my “A” button not work on the Xbox dashboard?

It flashes and makes the noise but won’t select the game or app. It’s the same for multiple controllers and the A button works fine in games.

I’ve tried hard resets and updates but nothing.

Thanks for the reply but still no luck. Its like the button works, sound and flashes on screen, but nothing happens. I can hold it down for about 30seconds and flick my finger off to get it to sometimes activate.

Hello AD-AT,

Thanks for coming to the forums. We understand have issue with the A button on dashboard? Have you updated the controller? Sometimes the test will re-sync a controller. If you have and still having the issue, you can try a

soft factory reset. This will reset the OS to default but keep your games and apps.

it may not be enabled to navigate the menus, check that, since some buttons can be removed or have their functions changed in the console menu even though these changes don't happen in games, that could be your problem

it sounds like you tried to isolate the problem using other controllers already and did a power cycle. My next bet would also be as others have suggested to do a reset by holding down the side button near the disc tray at start up without doing so to
sync a controller. Reset should appear as an option on screen. I hope that works for you
