Gamertags that are no longer used and how can I get one

I was wondering how to get a gamer tag that is taken but the account is no longer being played on. I just got done talking to Xbox support and they said they guy is no longer active and the account was suspended or banned. The Gamertag I wanted was x Kaneki.

Is there any way I can get this name?

I need to change my gamertag from the automatically assigned gamertag. Support tells me that the GT I want was used on xbox 360 long ago and is no longer in the system. How do I get my gamertag?

Ive just got an xbox one and I'm using my old gamertag how can I change the email to a new one?

I've just purchased an xbox one and the gamertag i used on my xbox 360 has an email I no longer use, how can I change this email to a new one?

The original owner would have to change it to something else, or if they do not sign into the account for 5 years (starting in 2016) it will be freed up for use. There's no other way to take the name. The gamertag system is also used on other Microsoft services,
so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else.

Check the e-mail associated with the gamertag. You should have received an e-mail stating how long each suspension is for. You can get a longer suspension in one area while others may be only a few days

Yeah like i know people that have longer gamertags that are really creative. My gamertag used to only be Mega. Then i changed it and i wanted Mega back. Now with the new system i cant get my 13 character gamertag back. I can only make
it my ingame gamertag unfortunately

Hello no you would have to start a whole new account with a new gamertag. IF so is no longer playing and you want to use his account you can pay $10 to do a gamertag name change if you dont want to use the one hes using.

Sometimes Gamertags do not appear on Xbox, but are still in use, because they can be used by Zune. My thoughts are that the Gamertag has been banned, is already in use, or cannot be used for other reasons. I'd try mixing up the letters, like Ja5on, or Jas0n
maybe. Microsoft no longer recycle Gamertags, so if it is in use but inactive, it's unlikely you'll be able to get it.
