Gamertag won’t change

I paid for a gamertag change, my payment went threw but it never changed? It’s been 10 hours and my friend changed his gamertag with no problem and only took a couple of seconds to change? I was trying to change my name to: - thanks

Kindly sign in to https://account.xbox.com/profile and check if your Gamertag has been updated. If not, please go to https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders and check if the "Gamertag Change" fee is showing up as completed, if yes then try to change your Gamertag again.

Kinda glad I’m not the only one, I talked to an Xbox support person and they said Xbox is currently changing their gamertag system and some people who have changed their gamertags won’t have their new one show up until the new gamertag system is completely up

Hi, there is a cost involved when changing your gamertag.

Note If you're changing the gamertag we created for you at sign up (meaning you didn’t choose it yourself), you won’t be charged.
For all other gamertag changes, you’ll be charged (fee varies by region and currency).

The first change is indeed free as long as you kept the gamertag that was provided by Microsoft then you have to cough up some money for further changes.

In regards to this matter, as stated in
this article "It might take a little while for your custom picture to appear while we verify it’s OK. (If it’s not, it’ll be reverted to the last gamerpic or avatar you were using.)"

Additionally, Sometimes, changes made on the account may take time to appear or reflect since the system needs to make sure that the data will sync completely. If you're able to change your gamertag successfully, it should show up
within 24 hours from the time you changed it.

I would also confirm that your charge for the gamertag change when through successfully by taking a look at your

Order history.

I hope this is able to clear up any confusion this might have caused.

it can take more than 5 hours, if you don't see any change in the next 24-48 hours I would contact support at support.xbox.com
