Gamertag with numbers despite being unique

Xbox a while ago issued old account names to people, so people were allowed to have some names that became available. Your name could have been used previously in time and therefore needs a suffix to identify your account.Just a theory as I am unsure,
maybe try a unique one and see if it gives a suffix without accepting the change obviously?

I have the same problem but i already paid for it not knowing theyd actually show up

If it's giving you the suffix, then the gamertag is in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers.

My point is that my gamertag "" is utterly unique, nobody else uses it.
And yet, I get the numbers despite there being NOBODY else to differentiate from.

This system is woefully outdated, and there's been better ways to do it for decades.

As Smwutches said spaces and capitalization do not matter with gamer tags in the system.

The reason it would not have shown up for you is that when doing the search you have to type it in EXACTLY as the person typed it in when they set it up other wise it will show up that it is not taken.
