Gamertag Weirdness

Whenever I'm on my friends list and search up my name "Jacob" nothing shows up but if I search someone else's name like "Josh" I see that they have an account. I noticed this on other accounts with certain gamertags don't show up but can't claim that gamertag.
Is it a glitch in the system or is it something else.

If the system says a tag is in use, then it's in use somewhere on Microsoft's servers. The tag system is used on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not being used on an Xbox, it may be used somewhere else. The system also doesn't see things like spaces
as making a gamertag unique. So while "Jacob" doesn't show has being used, the tag is in use as "J a c o b"

it shows it on top of my gamertag on Xbox it’s shows the gamertag with this ń on the top and then the normal n at the bottom it so weird because when I typed my gamertag on the Xbox website it didn’t show those two gamertag it shows the original one without the weird n.

well from the sounds of it in the email "your gamertag or profile was found in violation of the terms of use and was issued a forced gamertag change?"

if you got such a message then yes the xbl pet team changed your name due to a violation of the terms of use

and you cannot be serious if you don't see the issue with that name

as punishment you were given a system issued name instead

that being said feel lucky you gotten a 2nd chance

you will have to pay for the right to use a personalized name again

you should it is sent to the email associated with your game tag but the above poster is correct your tag if against rules gets the forced name change, and a generic tag is assigned to you that you have to pay to change to something else. in the past if
your tag was against the rules you were prompted with a message saying you could not sign into live until you changed the tag, too many people abused that loophole by creating tags just as bad so now they do it this way there is no way around it if you want
a new name you have to pay for it and keep it clean this time thanks.
