Gamertag violation scam

Hello Microsoft,

My gamertag "BigKac21" was deactivated by the enforcement team yesterday. I've had this gamertag for I'm guessing about 15 years, and it is based after my college nickname. In the case review, the enforcement agent even states that the name "was not intended
to offend others" but was changed because some user perceived it to be offensive. It was likely a complaint from some sore loser, but even so, I understand this ruling, and am fine with having to change the GT. However, they did not allow me to change it
to a name of my choosing, and instead I get "" randomly assigned to me. Note that my name is not Joey, so this random new name makes zero sense. After filing a case dispute in hopes to get a free gamertag change, and contacting online support
twice, I've repeatedly been told there is nothing they can do and I have to pay the $9.99 to change my GT. What a scam!

As a previously loyal customer since I was in college (around 15 years), and always renewing my Live subscription annually, I would expect better of Microsoft than to try to scam me out of $10 like this. Luckily, my Xbox Live subscription ends in 2 days,
and I just cancelled the $60 auto-renewal, so Microsoft's action has resulted in a loss of one of their customers as I will be moving on from using my Xbox console, and from purchasing any future games or Live subscriptions.

Your Gamertag was most likely changed because the Enforcement Team deemed it offensive, you have no say in this as others could deem it offensive.

You could try and submit a case review following the steps here

how long does it take for the team to review a case, like whats the point when my suspension would be over before they even look at my case

 

It does say in the ToU/CoC that you agreed to that if you receive a forced gamertag change then you will be given a randomly generated tag for free & if you want to change that then you will have to pay.

You used to able to pick your name but to many people abused that so they changed the rules a few ago so now you have to pay.

 

Did it say that 15 years ago in the CoC? It took 15 years for me to run across one person on this earth to find my GT offensive. I am obviously abusing any terms by having the same GT for 15 years, so seems like I should be grandfathered into the old terms.
I'm a 32 year old, not a stupid teenager...I have better things to do than come up with dirty/offensive gamertags.

 

Whenever the terms are updated, you are required to agree to the new terms before you can sign back into Live. So even if that was not the policy 15 years ago, you did agree to it when they added those terms.

 

You Ambassadors can site the "terms" all you want. I'm saying its wrong and it has cost Microsoft a customer. It's ridiculous I've been paying a $60 Live subscription and keep buying games/accessories/etc., and in return Microsoft wants to scam more money
out of me. If my gamertag was offensive, it shouldn't have taken 15 years for them to act. They can rectify this by allowing me to change my gamertag free of charge, otherwise, I'm done with them.

 

Its just a boring gamertag come on WearyJoey, are you really going to give up for 15 years account and $60 plus you've been spending for your games/accessories/etc just because you can't afford that 9.99 dollar Gamertag change? Come on dude. Xbox for life!!!

 

You wont be getting a free name change.The rules are the same for everyone,no exceptions.

It clearly tells you that you will have to pay if you want to change your tag from the random one you are given if you received a fnc so how is it a scam?

If you want to give up your account,xbox,games etc over this then that's entirely up to you.

The reason it took so long was because it was only now just reported.

 

It's not about the money, it's the principle of the thing. Looks like my PlayStation will get a lot more use this year...

 

So if you didn't agree with the rules why did you accept the ToU/CoC ?

Obviously you aren't seeing my point. I've been a loyal customer for 15 freakin' years with an excellent reputation score and Microsoft is saying that they could care less and want more money out of me because of, in the past 15 years, one idiot was a sore
loser and decided to pretend he was offended the initials KAC are too close to the word c0ck. Wow, they have one letter in common and don't rhyme.

Maybe I should report the name Daft Badger. I think badgers are great, and am so offended you would refer to them as daft (silly, insane, stupid)...want to pay up the 10 bucks because of something that stupid?

 

Doesn't matter if you've been with Xbox for 15 years. Rules are rules, as they commonly say. Ignorance of the law is not an excuse. Sorry the gamertag change was once free, but because abuse happen its not anymore for free. Sorry it cause 10 dollars, it could
have been worst like 20 or 50.

 

Keep citing these rules/laws all you want...it just cost Microsoft a customer (yes, I am aware it will have zero impact on them and their 85 billion in revenue).

Is it too much to ask to get a warning prior saying: "Valued Microsoft Customer, there has been a complaint about your username being offensive in nature. If we receive any more complaints, we may be forced to change it, which would result in a new
random GT assigned to you. Any subsequent GT changes will result in a charge of $9.99. Before any forced GT change, you are entitled to one free change. Please act now prior to any forced GT changes if you wish to avoid future charges."
Instead, they suddenly change it without warning, and all I get from support is "you should have read the terms," and "there is nothing we can do." Shows how much they want my business.

The ToU/CoC, by the way, are a combined 13 pages of fine print. How many people do you think read these...maybe 1%. You all know this, Microsoft knows this. Yes, I can confirm I was ignorant to the current terms, but so is almost every gamer out there.

Silver lining...at least it happened two days before my Live subscription auto-renewed. I have a wedding to pay for this year, every dollar helps. Microsoft just saved me $60 (plus any future game/accessory purchases). So thanks, I guess?

That's a great idea you have WearyJoey, but we don't live in a perfect world and other idiot users can abuse that free gamertag change once caught too, so you can blame many of them for this now strict policy of MS to pay for a change of gamertag violations.

Again ignorance of the law is not an excuse, none of this will happen if everyone is well inform with the ToU/CoC of course we don't live again in a perfect world and many of them choose to not read or understand the content that is why they'll have future
trouble or questions when a problem arises.

And all is well then with your wedding, Joey because if this fiasco you're able to save a few bucks. Good riddance then. And have a happy wedding and happy new year too!
