Gamertag unavailable? But it is...

so I'm wanting to create a new gamertag and rather than pay I thought I'd just make a new account since I'm not precious about gamerscore and my digital games can be shared from my old account but before creating a new account I tested to see if the tag
I wanted was available (which it was) but after creating a new account it's saying the tag is unavailable? My old account says it's available and I can have it if I pay but my new account says it isn't? I'm so confused!

Gamertag is Already in Use, but No One is using it

Hello everyone,

I have two accounts.

On my old account, I changed my gamertag to something else to free up that gamertag.

On my new account, I tried to change it to my old account's gamertag, but it states it is in use.

So, I tried to send a friend request to that individual, but it states "This gamertag does not exist".

I tried chatting support, but they could not provide a good answer.

Any ideas?

Slight problem. With how you are checking

First searching for a name doesn't mean it's available via friend request you must request the name

The only way to check is by using or changing to that name and if the system says it is taken its is taken

Just not how you think it is

When you search for a friend's name the spelling has to be exact

So is the same as or Ngoc phi etc etc however to find that friend you must type the exact spacing and caps

However to take the name it can't be any of those

You are going to have to be more creative like substituting letters for numbers etc
