    So,

    I was trying to change my gamertag to "PlayerGameSK" since that's what I use on most other services but apparently,it's been taken,although I highly doubt anyone else would come up with that name nor I've ever created another account with that name. I actually
    tried searching for it in the "Find friends" thingy and I got no results. Even this site says it's available so I have no idea what could be wrong: CheckGamertag.com | Check the Availability of an Xbox Live Gamertag!

    I've tried checking availability of "PlayerGameSKLP" (sort of like an alternative to my name) and that seems to be available...

    So is there a way they could check if an account with the gamertag of "PlayerGameSK" actually exists or if it's possibly just an error of some kind?

    Gamertag Availability

    If the system says the tag is taken, then it's taken. The gamertag system is also used on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else. The system also doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag
    unique. So you might be looking up "gamertag" and can't find it, even though it's in use as "gamer tag"

    Gamertags that aren't taken.

    Everyone wants a cool gamertag obviously, and when you try to take a original name such as Faith it says it's taken, but when you send a request to the person, it says the gamertag does not exist and I would like to be able to change my gamertag to something
    original but most are taken but aren't taken, is there a way to take an original gamertag even though it says it's taken but it's not?

    it could also have been used by someone on zune or something like that as the gamertags were all linked at one point, so not sure if thats still the case.

    Unfortunately that means its inactive but claimed. If it stays inactive for a set amount of time I believe it becomes free to use again. I think unfortunately you will have to wait and check periodically and hopefully eventually it will be automatically
    cleared for reuse

    Yeh that was what I assumed. I think it's pretty stupid because you have no idea when the gamertag will become active again and then it has the chance to be taken be someone else. Would be nice if there was at least some acknowledgment of this so
    I could decide if its worth waiting for.

    One you have to understand the system

    Just because you cant find the exact spelling of the gameetag the system wont tell yiu because you dont know that person

    Seeing as there is millions of different combinations its highly unlikely you have 3 cray super computers and 3 years to spend looking for such a combination you wouldnt be able to allocate that much computer time anyhow

    Gamertag is the same as gamertag or Gamer tag

    You have to use.the EXACT.context to find anyname

    But choosing a name must.be unique so if you dont want a suffix unique it with your own numbers inplace of letters or maybe similar sounding letters to replace the actual letters

    If you are refering to non ms sites then no never refer to them

    The ONLY OFFICal site you should refer to is xbox.com when searching for names

    And even then you have to try millions of different combinations to find the exact combo
