    Ok I'm going to try to keep this short and sweet and hope I get a response. So I had the gamertag (Distant) I didn't use it on xbox anymore but would sign into it on my pc from time to time to check on it. I knew the information to login. Recently I went
    to log in and it told me my info was wrong, I reset the password and used the same email to log in like i did in the past. This time my gamertag/xbox profile was gone completely and I was given this new generated name. My old gamertag still exists, I called
    Xbox Support and they told me the emails I gave them did not match my gamertag's email. So basically I think Xbox reset the email associated with the account and is going to release it once again? I still have a email from two years ago from Xbox saying Happy
    Birthday! with them addressing me as my gamertag, then I go to sign in with the same email they used to send me that and it says I have no xbox account.... Please somebody explain to me why on earth that has happen and if I can do anything about it.

    How do you get someone's gamertag that hasn't played since xbox original and has no games, rep, avatar or gamerscore??

    You don't, unless Microsoft is willing to delete them which I doubt will happen anytime soon though.

    What's even more annoying are those Microsoft "Zune" accounts. It's people who don't even play Xbox at all but their usernames are also gamertags, so you can't use them. Microsoft tried to make it easy for those who do use both, so your names are the same, which is dumb imo.

    Sorry to see any frustrations with not getting your account back. The release that happened did not release every old gamertag, only a small subset of those. You can see more about that on our

    blog post about it    .

    We had sent this up to the right people to investigate, and it appears that a suspension is involved with the account. We are unable to assist with those, and suggest that you reach out to the Enforcement team directly by filing a
    Case Review on their site. They should be able to assist further. Thanks for understanding!

    If Xbox Live says that the gamertag is in use, someone has it with the same letters, numbers and capitalization. If you checked on an unofficial gamertag checker the software may have not taken the capitalization properly or taken away the spaces.

    if the system says it's taken, then it's taken. The tag system is in use on other Microsoft services, so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else. The system also doesn't see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So while
    you might look up "gamertag" and it doesn't show up, it might actually be in use as "gamer tag".
