Gamertag system is a failure.

I totally agree with ts. Every decent word from the dictionary is taken for a gamertag. ZUNE and microsoft accounts should be seperate from xbox live!!! My kids are going to have no chance in getting a unique name without numbers lol.

 

There are unused words in the dictionary that are not used as gamertags.

A lot of them are common used words.

 

@Muggy: Zune, Xbox Live, Games for Windows Live, hell even Windows 8 itself, all use Microsoft accounts.

If you have a gamertag that connects to Live (either as a silver or Gold), there is no separation as they are linked.

A person with a Zune account can use it for Games for Windows Live. A person using GFWL can recover that tag on a 360 or One. All because they are linked to Microsoft accounts.

 

I just think we're lucky that we can change out tags at any time, I was horrified to find out that you can't do the same on the PS network, if I had to keep the original name I made when I joined Xbox, just wow. Haha.

 

No need for symbols, etc, just get creative and make something a little more unusual, like I did a few years back

And I`m sure it would take a serious amount of time before every single word in the dictionary was used for GTs.

 

Accept for Halo in your tag, your tag is more original that using numbers.

 

Preaching to the Choir. My preferred nickname (one that's shadowed me since HS) is Tater. Some Zune *** has it. No GS history at all. It makes me a sad potato. So I snagged an alt. Welcome to usernames.

 

Just be creative and have fun with it. There are many fun and cool tags available, you just need to find them for yourself. The gamertag system is simple and effective. We don't need odd characters making it harder to find users and such. If a name is taken,
try a different variation of it, or try to make something completely new, there's a lot you can do with a 15 character limit.

 

Or you could just register a proper Gamertag, Then buy a new one later on.

 

Just choose something else.

 

Play around with dictionary words. You'd be amazed how many interesting, funny (CLEAN funny), and intimidating names you can come up with.

Take my backup account as example. I chose the words 'anarchy' and 'enigma", then put them together and came up with 'AnarchicEnigmus'.

My complaint would be the outrageous charge for gamertag changing. I get that Microsoft needs to traffic and moniter the names users come up with in order to prevent absolute chaos in the systems, but they could do what most websites do and allow restricted
name-changes, say once a year or two. As long as users can come up with appropriate and personally-fitting gamertags, I see no reason why Microsoft wouldn't consider that option

also forgot to mention what did not having gamerscore being a silver have anything to do with it????? many of my old back in the day forum peeps remember me by lildevilbiker my account was silver and 0 gamerscore , but I came on these forums daily no broadband

I agree completely. I mean 7 years of inactivity is ridiculous. Plus the underscore problem.

 

Like HaloJolly said there are lots of great words out there for gamertags. People have to remember what a thesaurus is for and use it in conjunction with a dictionary.
