    So I wanted to change my Gamertag and make it on a new account to start Streaming and making videos.

    I was on my main private account and checked the Availability of the Gamertag. It was not taken and had NO Suffix at all.

    I made a new account on a new email because I wanted to do Streaming with a new profile, and went to change the Gamertag to the one I had checked only minutes before.

    Now all of sudden 5 minutes after checking it was available, I now get the very annoying Suffix which I really do not want ever.

    And now for some reason (assume the Gamertag system is broken) no matter what account I'm on when trying to change the Gamertag (to the one that I checked and is still not taken currently) it always gives me a number Suffix that I really wanted to avoid
    having.

    I am now just turned away from Xbox altogether, I wanted that name and now it seems, despite it not being taken by anyone I can't have the name I want. It's almost like by checking a Gamertags availability the system then removes that Gamertag from being
    available. That seems like this is an error or broken, or is this the way it works?

    Basically all I had to do was press Pay and the Gamertag was mine, (but I was checking the availability on my private main account, so obviously did not pay and change the name as the Gamertag was wanted for a new Profile to do Streaming). Then I made a
    new Profile and went to buy the free and untaken Gamertag I had justed checked was available and BAM I get nothing but annoying Suffixes on it even after restarting my xbox and even trying on the PC.

    It now seems the Gamertag that I wanted, and is not taken, and was leting me purchase 5 mins earlier; is now gone forever even though nobody has it, you can only get a horrible Suffix version of the Gamertag which I really dislike. This just makes me not
    want to get the new Xbox and get the name I want on another console as a username is really important to me.

    Please fix this error. It even says on Xbox information pages if a Gamertag is not taken then it will have no Suffix, but that's not what is hapenning. Possibly checking availability itself is also blocking Gamertags and really frustrating other people as
    I doubt this is just me.

    Hope this is fixed soon so I can Stream on Xbox, Thanks

    Gamertag System Error?

    Give it a little bit of time and then try again on the account you want the tag on. I think when you try checking a tag like that, it reserves the tag for a bit because it thinks you're about to use it. Since you didn't, it should show up as available
    again.

    Having a double gamertag issue

    Xbox is currently changing the Gamertag system.

    During that transition period, you might see your old gamertag as well as your new one.

    Current and older games that don't know of the new Gamertag system will still show your old Gamertag. And it can take until 2020 until the full transition to the new Gamertag system works in all games.

    So currently what you see is not an error. It's just how Gamertags are handled during this transition to the new Gamertag system.

    If I put in TheDuck it gives me an error, but it does show up as The Duck which the gamertag system sees as being the same gamertag.

    Hi,

    This error can occur when a gamertag is being used on Zune. Zune and Xbox use the same gamertag system, hence why it is coming up as taken.

    It's recommended you choose another gamertag.

    The problem is, the gamertag was created in a half error state, so they cant see ANY info related to the account... it is NOT in their system...

    So if it is NOT in their system, why can't it be used?
