gamertag reset

hey Microsoft, iv been playing Xbox for a while now and ive just realized how nice it would be if there was a gamer-tag reset for all those inactive accounts. im looking for an OG 3 letter name and im sure many others are... So why dont we reset them and
let people that are gonna be active on xbox use these gamertags, thanks

It only works if their gamertag is the first one to sign in to a console. If you factory reset your console and have them do that it'll work, but that's a lot of re-installing to do.

Sorry, Microsoft does not accept requests to release gamertags. You'll just need to wait for the gamertag to be released. They don't tell anyone the date or time they will do such a thing because then people will just sit on a gamertag to sell it or something
of the sort which is not allowed at all. This way it gives everyone an equal chance to get the gamertag when its' released.

 

they did start opening access to old gamertags that were no longer in use but it got abused and people were selling the accounts so they stopped it. wanted by many, spoiled by the few i'm afraid.

 

The way it works now is that if a gamertag does not sign in for 5 years it is then freed up.

They changed it mainly due to the reason Farscape mentioned.

Another thing to remember is that gamertags are used on other services,not just xbox live,so you have no way of knowing whether a gamertag is inactive or not.

Just because a gamertag has 0 Gamerscore or no games played does not mean it isn't being used.

 

Im pretty sure they reset peoples tags who are inactive every 4 years starting from the 2016 reset, also most of the accounts you mention are inactive with no games played for longer and no activity at all. If you ask me xbox is too busy designing dumb
colourful controllers that are still flimsy meanwhile still lagging behind in the games department, also rules do change for those in high places it seems. Look up the tag "Halo" that got reset recently and it only got reset because one the guys is at 343
studies which is a branch off company from Microsoft. Overall this company could do something that makes them money while making people happy, BUT no they chose to do something that the vast majority dont care about which is controllers .

 

This does happen, not too sure when the next reset is though.
