This happened to me as well. I've had my account name for years and with the trolls on Red Dead Online, everyone is trying to report just about anyone that they get killed by. I woke up today with a message from Microsoft and they changed my name for me.
Didn't even get a chance to pick a name myself. Now I'm known as ItchyJoey923843 or some other random jumble of numbers at the end. I can't change my name for free either. I've never been so serious about considering a playstation. At least I could play God
of War.

That is correct. If your gamertag is changed by Microsoft due to a violation of the Xbox Live Code of Conduct, you may either keep your assigned gamertag or create a new one for US$9.99 (or local currency equivalent). If you decide to play on another platform,
make sure you are familiar with their Code of Conduct, as well.

As to the reporting, that ultimately doesn't matter. If you don't break the Code of Conduct, the report is discarded. The report merely initiates an investigation. If the investigation finds no breach of the Code, no suspension and no gamertag change.

The free gamertag change is only available if you were given a randomly generated tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since you previously had a tag of your choosing, you have already used your free change. You
will have to pay if you want to change it.

Those are the rules you agreed to when you signed up. Playstation has similar rules only they do not allow you to change your name. They ban the account.

Try to report him and if it dont work out message microsoft or change your gamertag.
