    I have just brought a new XBox Series X and want to use my original gamertag. I have a gamertag on my XBox One which I haven't used for a while but it still has a lot of achievement points which I wish to keep. I try to log in but it comes up with the
    message :- 'Your passkey was tried several times. To help keep you safe, please use your password. Then I type in my password and the message is:- 'Try again later. There was a problem and we could not continue (0x80a4001a)'.

    When I signed into my microsoft account my original xbox gamertag (which I can still see on my XBox One) was no longer linked and it game me a new gamertag with 0 Achievement points?

    How can I recover my original gamertag (or if not that at least my achievement points?)

    Changing Gamertag Query

    Hello,

    Yes the gamertag update will change on both systems automatically, it may take some time. However if you would like it to update fast you can re-download your profile only and not delete your game saves. Just use your email and password you use when login
    to Xbox Live.

    To wrap this up, if I changed my gamertag to something equivalent of the aforementioned, and was allowed. Would I be punished in any way?

    Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. You can definitely change your gamertag without losing any game progress or purchases. If your gamertag was created for you when you initially signed up for Xbox (meaning you did not choose it yourself), you
    can change it one time for free. Additional Xbox gamertag changes cost extra.

    I'm Nilay and I'll be glad to answer your query today.

    Unfortunately, there is no way to remove a Gamertag without deleting the entire Microsoft account. Hope it clarifies your query.

    The process to remove would be: settings> account> remove accounts and choose the account to be removed from your xbox.
