Gamertag- old tag not being made available after change.

I believe after a set amount of inactivity old Gamertags are deleted and made available to new players and people requesting to change their Gamertag.

When a gamertag change is made the old gamertag becomes available immediately.

If you are trying to change the gamertag back to the old one and it is says its not available then its not available.

So the gamertag that you are wanting back is PowerUpVoltage

The problem is this MS made a new policy a couple months ago where any new gamertags including changes in gamertags have a limit of 12 characters.

The old gamertag is 14 characters so this is why it is not available for you to change your gamertag back.

Its quite simple. Once you change your GamerTag ANYONE can then select that GamerTag. You don't need to wait 10 years. I think some people are getting confused and are thinking about GamerTags that were made but not actively being used. There is a big difference.
GamerTags that are not being used actively are still tied into someones account and therefore not able to be selected. GamerTags that you voluntarily change become available right away. For example, if you wanted to change the casing of your letters in your
GamerTag you can change to something else, then change it back to the tag you had, and just change the lettering capitalization. It is the same tag you had just looks different. That right there proves that your tag is available to ANYONE to select once you
change it.

Did you change the gamertag on your console? Online? Where did you change your gamertag at?

When you are doing a search for your gamertag are you typing it in exactly as it was originally setup?

The system does not see spaces or capitalization when a gamertag is entered in except when someone is doing a search for it in the system. For instance.

If when you originally setup the account you put your gamer tag as an example as

GamerTag

But then when you search for it with

gamertag

The system will not find it

Gamertags are actually made available immediately when they are changed.

So my guess what has happened to your old gamertag is this.

Your gamer tag was say GamerTag you went in and changed it.

Someone since you changed it has went in and picked that gamertag but has put it in as gamertag or a variation of it with spaces or capital letters.

So when you go and try and search for that gamertag it is showing as not being available.

false, i moved a gamertag last week like above, once you change a tag the old tag becomes available within a few hours.
